NY chicken lover!!!!

She was completely ALONE, and while she is very pretty, she is about as dumb as a box of rocks. I swear, it's because they can't see.
Even though my daughter named her silkie "rainbow star" this is exactly why I call her "Paris" LOL And she CAN SEE! She gets left out there sometimes all alone squawking away looking for everyone, and it's funny because if they're all under the porch, they come out when they hear her and they look so aggravated that they had to leave their spot under the porch to come fetch her.

I am looking for a breeding quality black copper Marans roo. I had a fox attack & only have 1 left. I took a chance one day and let them out of the run....fox got 2 roosters.
I also would like a black silkie roo and a grey (silver partridge) silkie roo. Must be at least breeding quality.

On the classified, I saw a black SQ roo for sale. VERY nice. He was actually from a Paint pen, but he's black. Again VERY PRETTY> If he has been from a BBS pen, I would have taken him in a heartbeat.

Well today's our anniversary and you know what that means..................... a bath and clean underwear.

Happy Anniversary Rancher! Hope you have many more. Life is short, go crazy and change your underwear twice this year!

I can hardly contain my excitement! After a long search, I am finally getting two silkie girls for my boys, Legolas and Frodo. They should be here tomorrow or thursday. My breeding program is moving along. I am hoping for some really nice chicks come spring. Between this group and Little Mans group, I should get some quality blue, black and splash babies. Hopefully my future son-in-law gets the oak trees he wants out of the way today so my dh can cut down the big pine by the house and then I can start working on the permanent placement for my silkie coops. I will have to build a growout pen as well but hey, keeps me busy. Lots of rocks to move and fencing to do.

I dont know about anyone else but I am getting 2 dozen eggs a day now that all my rir pullets are laying. Between them and the older hens. Selling lots of eggs as well. My rir boys are really filling out nicely and are big boys. Olof and Legolas (my silkie roo) like to crow back and forth sometimes and its funny to hear a deep crow followed by one that sounds like someone is squeezing his you know whats!

Adorava--boys will be boys. This is why I let the two groups out at different times. I am hoping with the arrival of their own girls, my boys will stop harrassing Little Man for his women!

I have two Bev Davis BCMs. One is definitely a roo and is two weeks older than the other. We're still trying to determine the gender of the other, but it's looking like it is most likely another roo. Bev Davis only breeds BCMs that lay 6 or darker eggs. If you are interested and don't mind waiting a couple of weeks, I'm looking to trade him for a BCM hen.

Joining this forum may have been a bad idea....im awaiting my chicks in october...and I already want more...My husband just joked that I caught chicken fever..or bird flu. How do you guys handle all the choices? I feel like there is so much variety and beautiful birds, and I keep saying...I will use all the eggs...I have a useless cat....but chickens can actually do me some good...They are beneficial to my garden (under control)....I love to cook...so eggs are great...I just keep making more excuses to have more. I didn't even want chickens to begin with. I only started my research because I was pressured into getting some ...now I feel like its a drug...I am spending my days and nights combing through chicken books and on the web. The librarian thinks I am crazy because I have been there four times in one week for chicken books.

So now I have to ask....if I decide to add four more to my flock.....before it ships out to me....what would your favorites be for this area? I am in southern ny. I cannot have roosters where I live, but being here makes me want to move lol....

Help :)
