I am still thinking on it. For some reason....everyone has stopped laying all of a sudden. So I really only have a half dozen eggs. Like I said, I may still give them to Gerti to set on.you were going to bring EGGS?!?!?!?! aww, I would have buy them from you in a heartbeat!!!!
I had it happen recently. Had a hen on 2 eggs and one dissappeared. That was the first time I ever had an egg dissappear. Never did find it and the other one is due to hatch this weekend, so I'll see if it is viable.I had a BR hen on three eggs . I marked them since others come and lay more. Well day before yesterday two were gone. I shrugged as this has happened before. Then yesterday the third was gone.
I do admit they were in the corner of the coop on the floor but I have found eggs on the floor before with no trouble, such a eaten eggs. I can't vouch for fertility, so I don't know what the deal is.
I've had this happen with other hens in nest boxes, so I wonder if she knows an egg is not viable and eats it.
All the birds in this coop have a run and there was no entrance from outside. She's back in the corner on a wooden egg now. I have no intention of giving her any eggs. Nor a SLW hen in the coop who also appears to be broody.
I have two nest boxes for 9 hens but they chose to lay on the floor.
I will be making boxes like I saw at Tabs and Travis'. When funds allow.
Anyone have this happen with broody hens?
I know what you mean. I haven't been on in a couple of days and wow!
DH let out my buff brahma bantams on monday without thinking about it (habit). I usually let birds out when I get home from work so I can watch them. Shortly after I got home the dog barfed up bird pieces, feathers and all. I have no idea exactly what happened. I'm down to a trio now. I'm upset and relieved at the same time. The dead hen wasn't snuggles my first one. She's close to 3 and probably doesn't lay much but I love her bunches.
6 eggs out huh? That is very interesting. This is my first broody hen I was actually tempted to sell her this weekend, so , now what?I had it happen recently. I have seen a hen roll eggs out of her nest, to the side and only sit on part of the eggs under her. Never did find out why she did that, cuz the person who owned the hen refused to open the eggs after 25 days to see what happened inside them. She was sitting on 19 eggs and rolled 6 of them out, consistantly just 6. Some days I would love to be able to read chick
