NY chicken lover!!!!

I used a heated dog bowl last year, but need to buy a larger on for this year. They could empty it in 24 hours or less, and there were only 6 of them, now there are 12.

Wow, I can't beleive it's 6 already, where did the day go?!? Planted two more apple trees in my backyard today, went down the road to one of the smaller orchards to get some apple fritters - not the same fritters I grew up with in CT, but they were good and will have to do since I am missing out on the Apple Harvest in CT this year. :-(

Also had three solicitors knocking on my door this morning....

I think we're getting a little too spoiled with treats!

Very nice aren't they? We don't get many here. Even with Halloween there are no visitors. Which means every year I have to eat bowls and bowls of candy. That's why I only buy what I want, since I'll only end up eating it. Life is so tough here.

I would like to use heated bowls but that means running cords and a lot of work. I'd still have to carry water anyhow.

I'm sure I wont get any Halloween visitors either seeing as how most of my neighbors are horses. Went to Target Friday afternoon and about about 8 bags of candy...My husband comes home and says, "Do you really think we're getting trick-or-treators here?" My response "Trick-or-Treators?!? What are those?" LOL

I have had several hens, even after clipping their wings, continuously flying over our 4' fence. Several times a day I have to catch them and put them back in the run. Well, this morning I was catching one such red sex link, when I hear clucking behind me in the woods, but close by. On top of a mound of dirt (from when we built the coop) and covered in weed overgrowth was a production red hen... sitting on a nest of four eggs. STINKER!!!
And I can't get outside today to make the fence any higher since it has been raining ALL day. Hope she doesn't go search for her eggs and get lost.
So does this mean she's going broody? She's only 5 or 6 months old.

I buy candy every year JUST in case.. but I haven't seen a trick or treater in the four years I've been living here. I even carve pumpkins and light em up on Samhain/Halloween. =)

Just closed the pool.. boy does that feel good. No more pool maintenance for six months!!

Well, the dress didn't work. I made the strings to go around her wings too short, then they were too long. I took an old fleece hat and cut a hole in it, but she got her feet up in it and walked out through the neck hole. Maybe by the time her feathers are in I will have come up with a workable design. She has been telling me that she is no haut couture runway chick. Enough for today.

She could be. Either that or just doesn't want to lay eggs in the coop. If you see her sitting there staring off into space then it's a good bet she is. At this time of year I hope not for your sake. I've got chicks and what a pain.

The whole purpose of hybrids was to not have broodies but I had a friend who's GC's went broody.
