NY chicken lover!!!!

I haven't been on here in a while. We just got rain and wind nothing major here. Yesterday I got 18 eggs which was an improvement from the past couple of weeks. I have some pullets that have just started to lay and my older birds seemed to have staggered their molts. So I've not had a day where I've gotten no eggs. I brought the girls trick or treating to the hospital on wednesday. My brother has been in since monday. He started a new chemo while there. The doctor told him that if there isn't a response in his liver enzymes that he should look into paliative care and prepare for end of life. His chemo ended on wednesday and they may release him to go home on monday. I feel like someone is ripping of a body part after getting this news.
*hugs* So sorry Tabs.

Anyone know where I would begin the search for someone who would process a chicken for me?!? I have had it with my big Roo - he went after my daughter again today when I let them out of their coop. I would place an ad for him on CL but I just don't have the time to deal with that. DH (who is a chef) mentioned wanting to cook him if I did decide to get rid of him so I thought, why not.

Tabs,
So sorry to hear the news of your brother. I have a family friend struggling with cancer now, too. So hard to watch them suffer.

Do you have any Mennonites (sp?) close to you? I would start with them. Or maybe a deer processor might have an idea... lots of those signs around this time of year.

My Buff Orpington FINALLY laid an egg today! My daughter let the chickens out this morning and while she was scattering scratch, an egg plopped out of the BO and Jessie said she looked shocked. lol She laid it in the middle of the run while chasing scratch. Too funny. It is so tiny and cute, I hate to eat it!
The original flock and the 18 new Black Australorps are all getting along well. Many BA's keep to themselves, but a few mingle in with the other flock.
Now that my craft shows are over this weekend, tomorrow is coop day cleaning and new watering system (nipples). Yay!!!

.Tab, I would not take the word of a local doctor about your brother. Have him go to a bigger city, even Syracuse if he is local...Don't let him give up....
