NY chicken lover!!!!

the pics you posted on Thanksgiving looked really delicious! I've never done the killing myself, but I've skinned lots of animals, and butchered lots of deer, I'm quite good at skinning... once it's dead, I'm totally cool... the killing part was never "my thang", but I'm just angry enough at this bird, that I want to do it myself. a buddy of mine will come up when I get home from work, in case I "chicken out"... pun intended...

Thanks! They were quite delicious! From what you just said you will be just fine. I used to skin my birds but only because as a child I had to pluck 30 turkeys a year by hand and hated it. Turns out we just weren't doing it right

. But of course I understand you have a specific reason for skinning this bird. Don't fret, you will be just fine!

My chickens are dumb. I got the whole watering pail set up with the nipples and heater. It's been perfect. The water stays free flowing with no icing, so far. My chickens are clueless. I have been showing them by tapping the nipples so they can see water trickle out. They sit there and watch it fall. And then walk away. GRRR!!! I haven't been home during the day to be able to take their other water source away until noontime. I have had a couple black australorps try it and then walk away. I'm so frustrated! Any suggestions? Should I be mean and just take away their water and let them figure it out? I am home tomorrow, so I could do that.

You have to take the other water source away. They'll get it. :) Mine always have.

Hey all, has anyone here ever built an a frame before? I'm having a terrible time figuring out what angles to use when cutting the wood and wondered if anyone might know. All sides are four feet, so each angle in the triangle should be 60 degrees - but what angle do I cut the edges of the wood at to put the boards together to create this angle?

Ugh, the coop is for the silkies. They all just CANNOT make it up the ramp to the big coop, even though all the other birds can manage it. I wanted to start breeding them in the spring anyway, so I figured what the heck, instead of going out there every night and hoisting them all into the coop all winter, why not just build the separate coop and run now? On a related note, does anyone think they'll have an available white, black, or paint silkie or showgirl roo come early spring? Or a paint breeding pair? I can trade you a nice white silkie roo or white silkie breeding pair. Or I can just buy him/them :p My little roo is related to all the others by at least half, so he won't work.

My answer is make a longer ramp so the angle of assent is less steep. (I have to put out a longer ramp when I have chicks in the large side of the coop)

Ray's answer is 30 degrees. But he really doesn't understand what you are building, so he is not sure that that is accurate. His suggestion is to find some scrap wood and try the 30 degrees before cutting the good wood for your construction.

Thanks, I will certainly try that! And I'm building one of these, if it helps anybody know what I'm talking about: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/a-frame-tractor-6x4

As for making the ramp longer, it's already angled so that my tiny OEGB can make it up it. Even the tiny little leghorn chick I have right now can make it. It's just the darn silkies. Maybe they just wanted a coop of their own and knew I'd do it if they were difficult. Those silkies, always plotting.

Pyxis, I will have white, black, blue, splash and maybe paint silkies for sale this spring. I am trying to find buff silkies and I will be all set!
