NY Gay Pride Weekend

Religion offers comfort, solace, community, etc. The churches who exclude lose members of their parish to those who include. Since not one religion has evidence that their brand is any more "correct" than another, it is definitely a sort of "market economy." If Church A doesn't offer what you want, go to Church B that does. And that's what we are finding is happening today. Culture and society are not stagnant -- they change over time. Churches that don't adapt with the zeitgeist ("spirit of the times") will gradually fall by the wayside.

Thanks Aqua!

Does the ministry required a preacher to be gay to preach in a gay community or gay church? I do agree the church needs to go with the changes otherwise, too many will close doors as it has been going on in this city.

I find that many christian churches are fairly accepting of the gay lifestyle. I've found it to be even more true for college aged church groups. A good majority of the college-aged people I know are very accepting of any lifestyle. I do think it is unfortunate there are still people out there (such as was the case with the kid who committed suicide because his room mates made fun of him) who just cannot open their mind and be kind/civil to all people.

well the thing is, there are thousands of versions, translations, and re-writings of the bible. The verses that talk about homosexuality is hotly debated. There are even gay pastors (and non gay pastors who accept homosexuality) out there who feel the verses are being used incorrectly. Some of these verses used to promote anti gay beliefs have also been used to promote banning mixed races from marrying.

Each person has a different interpretation from the many many different bibles out there, so it is one of those very complex issues approached in many different ways by many types of people from many walks of life.

Each person has a different reason.

Me personally, I'm not christian, read different biblical versions, I tried to be Christian growing up to be like my peers but in the end, it wasn't right for me

I think gay people often feel pushed out of their family's church by disapproval, either open disapproval, or what they know they would happen if they were open about their status.

I once saw a van with a bumper sticker, 'Goddess on board'.

Of course I could not leave it alone.

I walked up and saw two women in the van.

I said, 'Which one of you is the Goddess?'

Many I know have chosen to go the route of Unitarian Church. A very dear friend of mine who just recently married his love of 13 years is a Pastor of the Church (EEEEGADS!!! This post is gonna go straight to HEDouble Toothpicks! Coyote is posting about religion again ROFL!!)

Here are a couple of good links in regards to their beliefs.

Yeah, I know. And I'm glad it has been kept civil.

But dang it. Is it 12 people being jerks? Or were there 700? Or 82,000?

Maybe one day we won't need Pride Weekends or months. It will be Pride all the time!
