I realize that this is sort of off topic but since this thread is two months old I would assume the parade is already past by now. I think the biggest problem in the south where I live is the attitude that some, not all, older people have with the " gays are gonna getcha" mentality that they pass on to kids. I am straight and my wife and I have been married for fourteen yrs so I would not even pretend to know what its like for a gay person having to hide who you are. The attitude I observe from my perspective isnt hatred towards homosexuals. Its really more ignorant fear than anything. The comments I hear are people saying that they dont want gays living next to their children or schools or they would be afraid to go camping or on an overnight trip with gay people. I dont think I've ever seen a news story where a gay guy raped a straight guy on a camping trip or molested children at a school. Usually rapists are deviant "straight" guys as are molesters. But some people here would rather accuse the gay guy who lives the next street over than the straight married guy who comes home, gets drunk, and beats his wife and kids. And I am so sick of the God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" speech. The last guy who told me that got mad and left when I told him Jesus was a liberal because he believed in feeding the poor and free health care. Not trying to turn this into a religious debate by any means, but thats just my uneducated opinion anyway. But what do I know, I am just a straight, married, gun carrying, chicken raising, liberal hillbilly redneck.
