Oatmeal

gives 'em a calcium boost if you mix in a little plain yogurt too

I too give my girls oatmeal, almost daily. Dry if it is warm out and cooked if cold out. I will add raisins and keifer (to the cooked oatmeal). I also reuse my egg shells. I grind them up in the coffee grinder and put them back in with their food.

Maybe silly questions but do you give them the hot oatmeal in a bowl or pan? Inside or out in the pen? I have 6 hens so how much would you give them at one time?

I have 6 hens, I give them warm cooked oatmeal mixed with either buttermilk or yogurt, and add some shelled sunflower seeds. I think I will try some raisins next time too. When they see me coming with the "different" bowl they go crazy.

If you are cooking the oats you are further diluting the nutritional value of the feed.

I know it sounds like y'all are really doing something special for your birds, but you're not. It would be much better if you used unprocessed Whole Oats than what you are doing. You are wasting time, money and doing very little to help your birds.
