Obama Adressing All School Children In Us . Propaganda Or What?

I'd have been more frightened of the previous president making a speech to my school children. I'm not a big fan of change either, but the previous administration did such a bang up job of getting us in the position that our country is in I'm more than ready for some new ideas and changes.

LOLOLOL You ALL are so FUNNY! Back when George HW Bush was president he did the same kind of speech to the school kids and the Democrats about had apoplexy. Now Barack Obama is doing the very same thing and now the Republicans are making EXACTLY THE SAME SILLY CLAIMS as the Democrats did all those years ago.

You guys are more fun to watch than even my CHICKENS!

I would have opposed it from the previous administration, but fact that it is unlikely that former President Bush will be addressing children it is not a valid point. Also President Bush spent considerable time reading to school children during visits and did not give any speech to children and acted properly.

I did find it offensive the encouragement from DARE programs for children to turn in parents. And I was a LEO!! If Bush had done or did the same thing it was wrong very very wrong. But two wrongs do not make a right unless I am missing something here and it does.

ok, I went and tried to find some info on this - I found a liberal page that slammed conservatives for freaking out, and a conservative page that slammed liberals for wanting to indoctrinate their children

my thoughts are - it should not be Pre-K and up - target audience should be older children.
and most importantly, the text of the speech should be available for parents to read BEFOREHAND. It would probably stop a lot of speculation and worry on parents' parts, and maybe enlighten all of us as to what he actually intends for this to be.

if it is truly a harmless "go get 'em" speech about education and the importance of working towards goals, then why can't the text be viewed online or sent home by the school before the kids are forced to sit through it?

just sayin' that if it was me that had such bad poll numbers, lately, I'd want to allay fears rather than stir up new ones.

Everything should be in the proper place and time. I will say if he was addressing only academic issues I might be for it, but this as stated already could be done in the presence of parents. This smell s of improper influence without a parent their for guidance.

The speech should have been submitted by to the school boards and then submitted to parents for approval. But to be honest if that is done why not just do it prime time? Why does he want to shut parents out? Would anybody be OK with Coca Cola providing free soft drinks to children in class?

Working in a school, I'm going to take a guess:

Not every family has a television at home, but nearly every classroom has one with basic local channel access. If you do it prime time, students who want to see it would miss out.

Having it done in the classroom leaves space for discussion. There are classroom activities suggested, and your child's teacher is there to help guide conversation afterwards. If you don't trust your child's teacher to be reasonable and impartial, you may want to look into homeschooling your child.

The reason why it wasn't submitted for approval? Look at this thread. The majority of responses are AGAINST this speech. Not because it contains anything bad, not because it isn't a good use of classroom time, but because it's Obama. That's the long and the short of it and everyone here knows it. It it was Bush, there wouldn't be such an uproar. If it were Clinton? There wouldn't be such an uproar. But it's Obama, and there is, simply because it's Obama.

Sorry to disappoint you but I was just as opposed to Clinton ... and her husband.

Oh please ... any student old enough to truly care can just look it up on the internet anyway.. They aren't being denied anything.

I'll ask my third graders today if they think it's cool the President wants to talk to them. I think they'll be tickled with the idea. They could look it up online, yes, but I doubt they will. I know several of my kids don't know how, or don't have computers or internet access at home.

And I'm sorry, I stopped reading after "Marxist".
