octagon 20

I can't take a pic of my Oct 40 right now because I had it open for a while
adding water and wigglers.

It has a plastic removeable tray with adjustable walls you vary for egg size.
The wall/tabs then come out at day 18 and the eggs just lay in the tray.

Can you say stable??? This thing is amazing and I'm only on day 6 or so of
my first hatch. If I knew how good this was I would have bought an Oct 20
in the first place rather than blowing money on Little Giants.

24 Silkies eggs in left tray - 2 wigglers and misc thermometers in right tray.
They are only there for reference and my curiosity.

Get the wet bulb kit. It's 2 thermometers and they are accurate. Both
stick out the side. 1 is just free air and gives temp. The other is in a wick
and gives a temp you cross on a chart.

Thats great PC....thank you so much. I was thinking that if i am going to get one again, it seems like for a few bucks more i would rather the plastic over styrofoam. Was there an occasion for the new toy? B-day? Well, all the books and internet dont show it too well, so I'm glad you were able to do this for me. Where did you get yours? I imagine you did your homework on the better prices??

Hi Lurky,

Thanks for the complimentary words but this was all luck. A member posted
she had one for sale and I snagged it. I had never seen one but several members
here, including Silkiechicken & HinkJC reccomended Brinseas, even over the Rcom.
Imagine my happiness when I opened the box and saw this thing.

I have 3 Little Giants, which are great as starter bators, but really require patience
and attention to keep stable. Plus when you add up the bator, fan kit, turner, flukers,
wiggler, etc they end up costing over $150 each. I could have just bought the
RCom 20 for a few dollars more. I'm keeping one as a backup bator, in case my Brinsea
breaks, and as a hatcher. I pushed my other 2 LG's on 2 different friends trying to
drive them into hatchaholism.

I just looked at the Brinsea site again. It looks like they have a really nice new Oct20
coming out but it isn't cheap. Brinsea has good web specials from time to time. If you
aren't in a rush you'll find a new one on special or may find a used one.

The new Hovabators hold temp well and don't cost too much. My reccomendation
to anyone without a bator is to start with a styro. Even if you just do a $40 still air
model and try a dozen eggs.

Ohhh silkies, why didn't you say so. You incubate silkie eggs in a microwave on
high. Works every time.

Those 24 eggs in my left tray are silkies.
