I heard I have eggs coming! Woot! It would not be fair if the mod had to make up for other folks, that won't do. Just wait and see if they do ship.;-) Deb ps , Jim you don't need to be sending extra eggs, good grief I can hardly fit in all these ones the chickens are laying! I gave my dark brahmas a good talking to and one of them laid an egg today!:-D

I tried that with my Welsummers and it hasn't worked yet. They are 6 months old. I heard this line usually waits until 7 months though. My Polish are 6 months old and my Cochin are 7 months. Darn free loaders. It probably a good thing though because I don't have my pens finished. And I do have them under lights.

Well, telling them once didn't work, so I nagged them. Then I let them free range a bit.i think they are slow because they all sleep outdoors and the light is inside the coop. Silly birds. Maybe I will take down the perch in the run so they go in the coop at night.

On a sad note, I came home from work last night and my laying flock rooster is gone.

He is my baby. Takes care of everyone and keeps everyone in line. Just over a year old. He was one of the first six that I got from tsc in the spring of 2010. I picked him out of the 3 roos to keep because he was my baby. Would sit with me next to the flower garden and eat grubs that I gave him. Well until he discovered girls and then he fed them to them. He was always nice to the girls and the babies. Kept the male guineas in line as well as extra roosters. Let everyone know when a hawk came by.

My fiance asked me the other day who I would be heartbroken to lose. It was my Gumbo, I named him that so he would know if he was ever bad thats what I was making. Out of all the chickens I have the one that had no real use as a breeder meant the most to me. I took extra care to make sure he never got overly stressed out. Even if that meant getting rid of a rooster that I wanted to keep.

There is no sign of him anywhere. I spent 4 hours in the pouring rain walking our 30+ acres looking for him in the dark. No sign anywhere. They reopened our road yesterday so I am worried he might have gotten hit by a car and wandered into the woods across the street. Where of course I can't look. Then there is a small chance that it was coyotes or foxes. However there are easier meals here than a rooster with spurs.

Or he could have wandered past my dads house to the neighbors who are again petsitting some type of hound. Although I think she would come and tell me if it got a chicken. Then there is my dad who had me lock them up for the longest time since they were destroying the garden. I just got to let them back out a week ago. I don't think he would shoot them like he threatened to before, but then again we are talking about the one that used to kill my rabbits as a kid and not tell me until dinner time when we were eating them. Anyone want to guess how that screws up a child? I am still trying to get over it, so that I can enjoy rabbit dinners again.

On the up side the new doe goats that I bought last friday picked yesterday to actually stay in the electic fence pasture with my 2 wethers.

Hopefully they will stay for good now. Still going to add another wire or 2 to the fence though which should deter them enough.

Oh dear , so sorry to hear about your rooster. I doubt it was a human, they usually steal more than one. Probably a fox:-(
