getting anxious now wanna see and hold those cute fuzzy butts
I'm a horrible aweful person! I just dropped the flash light on an egg and cracked it open it had a beautiful baby chick in it and now it's lost because I couldn't leave things alone. No more itchy fingers here I'm not opening the incubator again until thursday, the day after hatch.
Me, too!
Tiffani I'm so sorry that happened but remember it wasn't on purpose people are clumsy. My first hatch when we candled BC of course everyone wanted to be there I made everyone sit down and we put a blanket under us. Things happen. I know its not the same but one of our dogs kicked our egg basket last week when I was untying her(she's been running in the road) and broke all but two eggs. I know I wasn't incubating them but I just wanted you to know that everyone has those disaster moments
Oh, No!
I did something similar on Saturday-dropped a quail egg that got stuck in the egg turner while removing the egg turner for lock down. Poor little thing! Didn't see it until it went "crack!"
...This is one of those ****** if you do...****** if you don't situations. I have had many shipped eggs pip in the bottom and still hatch ok. I have had many pip in the bottom and go through a blood vessel and die and many malpositioned and get stuck. The problem is that the chick first is supposed to pip into the air cell....then later push through the shell. Bottom pippers aren't ready to pip through that shell and often get into trouble. If you help them pre-maturely you will kill the chick...if you don't help them in the appropriate amount of time...chick dies...and then sometimes chick hatches and no worries.Of my 2 left both have a really tiny pip on the fat end of the egg. Don't know when this happened as I found them this morning getting ready for work. I've had 2 sets die from piping on bottom before so hopefully since these are piped on top they'll survive. So afraid they are not going to make it. I'll be back in a few hours to check on them but when should I worry if they can't get out? Can I pick them up to see if they are doing ok inside the shell? I'm afraid to open the incubator for any reason.
