OCTOBER HATCH-A-LONG!!! 2015

I know they change so much, so quickly. I miss having little fuzzy butts. My youngest chicks are four weeks(one more week and quarantine is done -I'm so excited!) At least I have my silkies and my favorite who everyone said was a roo is definitely a pullet... Or well was squatting for me today and I've never heard of a roo squatting.

Everyone there was debate about if this was Ginger or Gilligan but based on the squatting Ginger is just a very grown up little lady for her age.

after my 12 icie eggs and 30 quail run thru incubator will be done hatching for awhile but will be good hobby for winter besides shoveling snow can play with my chickens

lled my last 3 eggs last night. Candled they had zero movement when cracked the egg they had fully developed but at some point between lockdown and hatch they had passed.
Final count 20 chicks
4 wellsummers 1 boy 3 girls
4 barred rocks
4 white chick from mystery eggs that could be either silkies mottled orphingyons or splash
4 super mixes
1 buff
1 black sex link and it's a roo
2 easter eggers
Took me a full day to figure out exactly what hatched. I started with 33 9 clears and 1 broke but this was a last minute hatch idea so i wasnt keeping up with who's eggs were who's so I had to get a good look at them once they all dried completely to tell. I wish you all the best on your hatches maybe I'll see you in the thanksgiving hatch a long since I've decided to do another batch I'll be setting Thursday.

It looks like my early October hatch yielded 1 roo and 1 pullet. Need a new name for the roo, Dora just doesn't seem to fit any longer haha. Halloween eggs started hatching today 1 so far, mother was a marans, father will be a guessing game as it grows.

So I am ending this October-Hatch-a-Long with 7 of 9 eggs hatching today.

The 8th egg may hatch but doubtful.

My 9th egg was broken and patched egg made it to day 17th then quit. Most likely oxygen starved.

My Total for the Month = 10/01 - 9, 10/07 - 7, 10/13 - 7, 10/19 - 16, 10/25 - 6, 10/31 - 7 = 52

Wowzers! 52?! Blimey. That's lots of chickies to play with through the winter :D

What breeds at the chicks above? Very cute.

congrats and what are the white chicks

My white chicks are Dark Cornish over my Cornish Roaster hen. The chicks mostly come out as white Roos that have a few dark red feathers over the wings. The females come out white with black speckles. Some of the girls turn lavender. The colored chick is a pure Dark Cornish. I was asked to make some laying hens so the red faced and dark chocolate chicks are Dark Cornish over my Red Star(red sexlink) eggers. They are all very cute.
Lavender
