Eww just had my first oozing egg. There's a smell I'm not going to forget anytime soon.
chick number one arrived this morning on day 20. I shall call it October. 27 more to go....Hopefully
I was reading from one of the commercial breeding sites that by making small temperature changes near the end of the hatch stimulates the chicks system to self regulating it's own bed heat and pays off in meat and egg production as they mature.im on day 20 and this is so nerve wrecking! my humidity has been low. about 45-50 from day 1-18... . So for lock down i added a lot more paper towels, and humidity is now 70! Temp was hovering around 99, and since i worked all week, it did dip down to 97 for about 9 hours for day 18 and 19. Now that i am home, i can pay more attention to it, (i was afraid of over adjusting and boiling the babes!) so i added the paper towels and turned my heat dial a smidgen up. it is now sitting at 100 degree.
Do you think that being around 97-99 on days 18/19 will effect the hatch for tomorrow? I have left the incubator alone (beyond the opening for humidity adjustments).
I see the pictures of the pips and i am so excited! I dont hear any from mine but im hoping i see something happen tomorrow.
It is nerve wracking near the end. But I don't think you're humidity has been low. I keep mine at 45-50 the first 18 days and around 55-60 in lockdown. I've never had any problems. I don't think a dip in tips will hurt them. It may delay their hatch by a day or so but I don't think it would affect their viability. It's better to go lower in temp than too high. Too high of s temp almost always is fatal (104 or so). Remember, even hens get up to eat. I can not quit checking mine, I have 2 pips. Not much progress and a nervous wreck here.
