Congrats on the new bities!!!!!
Day 13 here, boy this seems to be going so slow.. I have had to really watch my temps, have had a few spikes of 103.. Not worried to much, I'm still within the acceptable range but soon those little buggers will be creating their own heat and then watch out lol... I candled on day 11 and removed 3 more of my BO eggs... Down to 7 left.. Not sure whats going on, they are fertile but not starting well or starting and stopping, I have removed 6 of those now... The EE eggs are going great, 18/21 were looking good, cept for one with a wonky air cell, had one in the spring that was much worse, took up half the long side of the egg, chick hatched out fine so we shall see, I'll try and snag a photo when I candle tomorrow..
On another note, ran into Wilco to return a purchase I made last week and of course they have their fall chicks. One of the gals who work in there knows me well because of my chick buying in the spring.. Took me to the back and showed me 35 chicks she had in a tub that were removed from the floor due to some serious pecking others (brown sexlinks) and some cases of pasty butt... Gave them to me for free and then told me any of the ones on the floor I wanted I could have for .50 each! I contained myself, called a friend who raises egg layers and she agreed to take all 25 of the sexlinks, I took the rest.. Speckled Sussex's, and a few other breeds, bought 6 RIR from the floor but the price is still open for me if I want more... I wish I had room, they aren't selling very well due to the time of year and most of the chicks out there are 2+ weeks old. I thought of taking a lot, raising them for a few months and then trying to sell them but then what if I cant sell them?? Cant be trying to get through the winter with having to feed so many animals.. They were so crammed into those tubs its no wonder they were having pecking issues..
