I need some advice.

Day 17!!!

On day 18 I have 11 eggs that will be on day 18 but I have one egg that is on day 16. The chick is very active and moving around. It is smaller than the others and still needs to grow for those last two days. What is going to happen to that egg if I do lock down on day 18? Could I wait to do lock down until the first internal pip?

Just not sure what to do

I know some people don't lock down until day 19, or until the first pip. I always have early hatches so I always lock down end of day 17. I think you would be fine waiting until the first pip. That's what I would do if I didn't have a second incubator to use as a hatcher. I do staggered hatches also. I have 2 that are hatching now and 13 others due to lockdown tomorrow.

Well our silkie hatch is over. 50% hatch. started with 7, 3 were clears so i don't count them in the hatch %. 4 made it into lockdown, 2 died after interenallli piping. Looks like we have either a whte or a spash. and maybe a buff. The one thats I think is buff is still wet but looks like its white and orange/red mixed together so who knows. I'll be able tot ell more when s/he dries. the orange could also maybe be blood. Pictures to come soon :)

I came home to a all the chics looking almost dead. The heat lamp was super hot along with their room. i pulled them out n havw two on my lap dropping water into them trying to get them back. Anything i can do besides cool off n water? Im so worried about them

How can you tell its dead not just resting ready for stage 2 and the external pip?  and how can you tell they are internally pipping?  I keep seeing people say that but as you arent supposed to touch the eggs (or be lifiting incubator lids) at this stage how is everyone working that out?

Km of the methodology that less is more. The less I candle and touch the eggs, the better my hatches have been.

I need some advice.

I would do the normal thing for the greatest number of eggs. Very utilitarian of me. But of most of the eggs go in lockdown two days before the last egg, I would just put them in lockdown normal, along with the extra egg. I'd rather risk losing one chick versus all 11.

I hope your babies are ok!!!!

It might be a little late but I would just make them drink and remove them from the heat to an area of the correct temp and then fix the brooder area....

End of day 17 for my backyard flock mix and have two internal pips, Can't hear them yet but can see the beak in the air sac moving around. the two that are piped are Speckled Sussex/ White leghorn mixes so it'll be interesting to see what we get! Since they are already internally piped I started lockdown tonight.
