Is it wrong to hatch ducks under chickens

Many broody hens have raised ducklings. I think it is the best way to raise ducklings (if you don't have a broody duck), because ducklings are so messy to keep in a brooder!

Lol, they are extremely messy, once they got in such trouble with my mom 'cause they had somehow kicked everything out of the brooder and onto one of the couches!!

Just put my 6 future EE (hopefully) in lockdown. I put the incubator in the extra bathroom this time. Out of sight helps control the impulse to tamper with it.lol

My morning update...9/11 have externally pipped!! Tomorrow is actually 21 days so the other 2 still have a little bit before I worry. So far I havn't touch the incubator, just going to let them hatch! Buying eggs at a local auction might be more fun then I thought, I get to see if the are really RIR!!! LOL. I don't care either way just fun for $7 a dozen. I will update as they hatch and dry off!! Hope everyone has a great weekend

we have 1 hatch, 2 external pips, 2 internal pips on a friends eggs I am hatching out. The chick that hatch is result of partridge silkie rooster/Brown leghorn hen. s/he has 5 toes, light skin, grey beak. and looks like maybe a beard. will be interesting to see what s/he looks like once s/he dried.

Oh my....so cute! I noticed you mark the air cells with pencil? may i ask why? is there a 101 on hatching w/ incubator, i need to go back and read? Any BIG no-no's? I'm just keeping temp. & hum. as steady as i can with out a thermostat and turning 3 times a day... and waiting....

Marking the egg with pencil is a way to track the air cell and how fast it is growing.

So, does it affect the eggs and incubation when it's hot outside even though they are brought indoors and "rested" before incubation? Because my chicks were supposed to hatch on Monday/Tuesday. I went to put the eggs on lock down this morning and I had two chicks already hatched, one egg zipped, and at least 3 pipped. I don't even have the brooder set up! Half of the eggs are from my flock and were gathered daily, but some were gathered later in the day, in the heat of Tennessee late summer. The rest were shipped but were also from Tennessee. I kept the eggs in my cool pantry until they were incubated.
