October Hatch-A-Long

So, does it affect the eggs and incubation when it's hot outside even though they are brought indoors and "rested" before incubation? Because my chicks were supposed to hatch on Monday/Tuesday. I went to put the eggs on lock down this morning and I had two chicks already hatched, one egg zipped, and at least 3 pipped. I don't even have the brooder set up! Half of the eggs are from my flock and were gathered daily, but some were gathered later in the day, in the heat of Tennessee late summer. The rest were shipped but were also from Tennessee. I kept the eggs in my cool pantry until they were incubated.
I am by no means an expert but I think if the egg got hot enough incubation wwoud=ld have started earlier. explains early hatch.

Day 20

One egg is rocking and baby is chirping! We played a video from youtube with day old chicks chirping and the baby responded!

I love that! Gonna have to try it.

I have been pressing my ear to the incubator window trying to hear, staring in to try to see movement. No luck, but when I leave it alone a few min. 2 of the eggs are positions a little different when I go back..

My humidity jumped from 60% to 85%

I'm not sure if I should be freaked out or not! Isn't that to high?
mine jumped from 50 to 75 and almost reached 82 but I hadn't added any water just a small pieces of sponge early in the day just to get to 50. It went up when 5 hatched all at once.

My update is 9/11 hatched!! 2 eggs still nothing but will give them till tomorrow and candle them when I take the 9 out to the brooder. I have, I think 6 black and 3 buff/red!! They are not RIR!! LOL They are still very cute chicks and can't wait to get them out of bator and see them dry. Will get some pictures soon :) Happy hatching!!

Last week, when the first chick hatched, it chirped and pecked at the other pips. The chicks still in the egg responded and I think they hatched faster because of it.

I think the humidity rises on its own when the chicks start to hatch. What day are you on?

I have been incubating without added water in a damp basement room. When the chicks started to hatch, the glass fogged up from all the moisture. I don't measure the moisture. I think the temp is most important. Everyone hatched just fine.

I'm making a video compilation of my daughter's first hatch from last week. It may be interesting to those who are waiting for their first ones to hatch. Is there a good place on here to share it? It's on YouTube so it's easy to share.
