October Hatch-A-Long

May I join? I'm doing an experiment. I'm trying to hatch a chick under an incandescent light. I have a little clear box with an egg, a hydro/thermometer, and a clear bag with holes poked in it covering it. Right now it's 62% humidity and 99 degrees F. There's a small wet paper towel in there as well.  EE x Partridge Rock. I'll set 2 more today!

Isn't 62% humidity for the last 3 days so a bit high for when you first set them? I'm a first timer so experienced hatchery feel free to correct me! :)

I agree. But i also do the dry hatch I dont have my humidity above 40% I don't add any water unless it gets below 10% and my humidity for the last 3 days is 50%-60% But everyone does it different

Moving the incubator to the bathroom has made a huge difference. I think that the weather plays a part too. I don't think that I will be able to hatch in the summer so winter hatching is all I'll be able to do until I get a different incubator.

Since I set the eggs on the 28th at 10 pm the temp has not moved from 101 and humidity is 35%, a bit high but it will drop. So far things are looking good. Pulled one egg because it was just to porous and I'm worried about it exploding.

Looking forward to candling on day 7 :)

Sounds good! Good luck!!

I popped open the top a bit, hopefully that'll bring the humidity down. Did I fatally mess up already?

I don't think it's going to matter for that short an amount of time. If you check your weather site on a rainy day outside air humidity can be 100% and broody's hatch in that all the time, so it just like them setting on a damp day really. It would be long term I'd worry.

I've got a hatching calendar here and it gives 45% to start then 60-65% on day 18. Dry hatching uses lower rates again so I'd just make those your Max's

Joining the Hatch a Long late, I always forget to change months. So, I have 12 eggs from Just Fowling Around that showed movement yesterday, out of 16 shipped eggs. Crossing my fingers for Marans and Sussex. Then on Thursday, I will be locking down 10 legbar eggs, and some misc from my flock.
