Day 8

Out of 19 we saw definite movement in 8 of the eggs. Some of the eggs, the ones from the RIR hatchery chicks, are dark and hard to see inside of. There are another four or so that we think we saw movement but aren't sure.

Mostly hatched out! I have 2 SBEL OEs, 1 Austrawhite x Blue Marans, 1 Sizzle.

This next pic is (from left to right) the Austrawhitemarans, the second SBEL OE (this one came out white, compared with the darker sister from the previous picture), and then the sizzle.




Finally, the broody's penthouse apartment.

Batch 2 isn't looking good. Candled again, pulled 3 of the 6 as for sure deads. Only one in there I am certain is still developing, though... the others looked off, but I'm giving them a chance to surprise me. One was a weird shaped egg with a baaaad saddle aircell so I'm not shocked there, the other I suspect quit during the power outage.. Serama eggs are so tiny, they shed heat fast and the development time looked right. The 3rd pull, though, was actually pretty cool! Cause of death was conjoined twins with enlarged hearts. Shocking they made it to Day 10 or 11.



Here's Chip, conked out and blissfully unaware that he just might be the only chick of 18 eggs.

Took the eggs out of the turner last night, One has a real wonky air cell, put it where I could keep an eye on it.. Got the temperature stable and went to bed... Woke up this morning to add some humidity and wonky air cell egg has piped at the pointy end... I don't have a lot of hope for this little one, today is day 18, The pip is such that I cannot see the beak and obviously wont mess with it now.. ... I'll give it til tonight and see if there is any progress but sad that this is how my last hatch of the year is starting..... All the other eggs look great tho

I have 10 light sussex eggs in a brinsea mini on day 12. I candled several of them last night but I am just not good at figuring out whats in there, whether it is a hug yolk floating around or a chick, whether is it the air cell or a blood ring, etc, one had a definite yellowy area and then a darker blob next to it that might have been yolk plus chick. They are very porous shipped eggs so I don't have high hopes but it is my first hatch ever and they were pricey eggs so I'm hoping for at least 2 or 3 (preferably one of each sex). I can't stop candling to try to see something identifiable, it's driving me nuts. I got 15 sent because the shipper sent some extras but I could only fit 10 in the incubator so I took the 5 that had the most poop/dirt on them and threw them out, haven't ditched any from the setting though. I smell them and no smell..so..I'll check them again on day 14 if I can restrain myself the next two nights I love seeing all the posts with candling and fluffies!

Day 20.

Started with 31 (mostly BCM and few OEs), culled 7 as clear/quitters @ 14 days.

6 hatched already, 5 more with external pips.

Hoping the rest are on schedule and don't mind the early emerging hooligans stomping about.

Is it normal to have 2 dark blobs in a single-yolked egg? I'm very confused.
