So I had 4 Light Sussex chicks hatch last week and as soon as I disinfected the incubator, a friend turned up with 12 Indian runner duck eggs, so I set them yesterday. What else am I supposed to do with fertile eggs?

I have a couple of hatching questions.

1. If day 18 started at noon When should I lockdown.

2. I have read that I should leave the fan on and I have read turn the fan off during lockdown?

Any help welcome.

I just hatched out 6 of 6 in my new homemade incubator. Buff cochin roo with porcelain belgian bearded d'uccle hens.

I usually wait till the end of day 18 or whenever is convenient to lockdown because I candle and mark aircells.

I would leave the fan on... I only turn it off if I have chicks that need help or have very sensitive (tiny) eggs or I hear turkeys hatch better without the fan.
