Odd ball chickens

Put a roost inside the coop, higher than the nest boxes, block off just the nest boxes at night for a bit, not the whole coop. How old are these established hens?

there is a roost inside their run. Chickens are very new to me so I’m still learning the terminology. I noticed this morning that it is the same level as the nesting boxes. This is what we have for them.

The run is the fenced area open to the elements. The coop is the "house". Chickens like to roost on high things. So whatever is highest, will be their preferred spot for the night.

They are a year and a half old. I will definitely add a roost into the coop. Thank you for the advice!

Ok, the only roost we have then is in the run. I'll add one inside of the coop so that they are protected. Makes sense now and seems like an easy fix to the coop. Thanks for the advice!

x2. Didn't realize you (OP) didn't have a roost inside the coop, so I was a little confused as to why you'd lock them out of it!

The protein is 21% I believe. This is what was recommended to me to use just through their molt and then to switch back to a laying feed hopefully in December. I think that's what he called it, game feed, but I could be wrong. It's made by ADM Pen Pals.

I'll have to take a book out with me and see if I can read under the lights!

You'd think that'd be an easy answer. YES, there is a timer. I'm still messing with it trying to get it to only come on from 7-10pm and 6-8am. It seems to have a mind of it's own though.

It is a plug in. My husband is an electrician, surely he could figure it out if I remembered to ask! haha!
