I am new to chickens and I have chicks currently in the brooder. Several of the chicks have started to peck the sides constantly. Is this normal? Are they bored? If so how can I entertain them?

Our chicks did that too, I'm pretty sure it's normal. To me that is their way of learning and entertaining themselves. As long as they have each other, they won't get bored easily.

Hi!
I don't know whether or not they could be sick, but we have nine grown chickens who like to peck at anything that makes a different sound. We have four older chicks now, too, and they are curious about everything!
You could put a baby-safe stuffed animal in with them; just make sure that they can't eat anything off of it! They do love to get into everything!
You could also check the heat in there and make sure that it's not too hot.

Thank you it is good to know that it is normal. Their temperature was normal.

Mine did that too. I think it's pretty normal. I think they;re just curious about learning new sounds. I put a plastic water bottle (without the label) in there one day as an experiment, and 5 minutes later they would peck the wall, eat, peck the bottle, peck the wall, ect.
