Ok. I'll ask it. Mira has started doing this thing with the carpet and bed spread. She'll lay down, start kneading and suck on the carpet or bed spread. Why?
How old is she? She is behaving like she is nursing. The kittens knead their mother's teats while they nurse. Most cats will continue the kneading behavior all their lives. They do it when they are happy and content. My 10 yr old cat will sometimes drool on my when she is kneading me.
I had a cat who was taken from her litter too soon and she did that with one particular blanket her whole life. When I went to bed at night, she would come and climb up on me to knead and suck on a particular blue fuzzy blanket I used.
Had a cat that did it his whole life, on my DD's teddy bear. He eventually sucked the fur right off of that teddy bear.
She's 10 weeks old now, but was 2 weeks old when we found her. She does it to the Shih Tzu's hair, the labs face. And she licks. Alot. Poor thing...I've turned a cat into a nursing dog with an extremely rough tongue!
I have a cat that does that as well. We rescued her from a school as an adult, where someone had abandoned her. I don't know anything about her life before she was dumped, but sometimes she will "nurse" a blanket.
One of our rescue cats likes to knead and suck on my hair (we got him at 7 months, not sure when he was taken from mom). Our old cat liked to knead and lick skin, and he was with his mom for 12 weeks (we got him from my mom's cat). Some cats just like to do that. Our old cat did it his whole life.
