Odd cockerel behaviour

Our cockerel (10 months old) has been sitting in an unused best box in our tiny spare coop, and made growling/purring noises, it's pretty funny!! Is he broody? can anyone suggest a better and more sensible reason than that?

We have three roosters. Occasionally one will get in a nest box and act rather silly. I always thought they were just wooing their girls.

He's telling the girls, "Hey, here's good place to lay your eggs".

Got my first flock as adults, cock got in nest first day for 30 minutes or so, chittering up a storm.
Eggs later that day. Never saw him in there again.
