Hi

We have had our chickens for 18 months now and they all appear healthy, happy and content. All three have always laid lovely eggs with no issues at all.

However, about a month ago our biggest girl began to lay extremely big eggs... about twice the size of a golf ball (how she manages that is unbelievable ! ouch!)... more importantly thoough he eggs seem quite watery.

The eggs taste perfectly normal when you eat them, however, if you fry them they tend to really bubble. If you boil them they seem to be a little translucent and not the beautiful white whites they used to be.

We have given her vitamins, supplements and plenty of checking over to make sure she is not ill but everything shows she is fine. Shes the most lively of the chickens and seems very happy.

The other two chickens eggs are perfectly normal and dont seem to have any problems at all.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or any idea to resolve?

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi, I have 2 chooks, 2 and 4 y/old/ They were laying alternate days. We have noticed that one of the hens eggs, is a bit wierd int eh egg white. Part of the white is very opaque and solid, and the other part is what I would call normal. Any ideas? I have looked at 'thepoultrysite.com' and can't find anything here..........Thanks.

Hi

Well we think we have solved the problem. We have increased the amount of corn mix we give the girls each day. It was normally 75% pellets 25% corn, we have now made this 50/50 and also added a poultry supplement (name ill post last as i have forgotten!) into the mix.

Result - the eggs seem to have stabilised.

Another minor thing we did was to fully concrete the floor of their night time run space to reduce amonia from the chicken poop. They free range all day so are on soft grass/dirt during the day. But giving them a permanenntly clean floor inthe coop run(we still put down hay across the floor for them) has both made the area cleaner for them but a nicer place for anyone to visit!

Hope this may help anyone else in the same situation.

Ian
