I got 3 chicks that are a mix of Polish and Orpington. The one that was the smallest is not the biggest and has a split comb. I can’t find any info online to suggest what kind it might be. I am actually starting to wonder if this one is really a Roo. Anyone seen anything like it before? The other 2 don’t have enough of a comb yet to tell if they are the same. I think they are roughly 5 weeks old.

It reminds me of a crown comb, but it doesn't have the indent in the middle. Obviously the Polish divided comb genes played into this. Sometimes you just get odd combs that don't really fit any category with mixed breeds, especially mixing different comb types.

I'm interested in what others have to say.

I figured it could just be an odd comb b/c she’s a mixed breed. Doesn’t bother me - just curious. I didn’t realize Polish have divided combs! It wasn’t a breed I was looking at, but the combo sounded intriguing so I went for it! 😉

And a search also produced a fellow BYCer posting what they got when crossing a large single comb breed (White Leghorn) with a duplex comb breed (Polish). This particular cross produced something like a crown comb, which is a duplex (divided comb) with sides like a single comb to form a crown, with indent or hollow in middle.

Yours has the duplex comb of the Polish, sides like the single breed, but then this weird stuff in the middle which is almost like pea comb rows but coming out as crown spikes. You can get some weird stuff indeed with mixing breeds and comb types.

So many cool combs out there. That one looks like a buttercup comb.
