I’m loving the weird!! Thank you for thisAnd a search also produced a fellow BYCer posting what they got when crossing a large single comb breed (White Leghorn) with a duplex comb breed (Polish). This particular cross produced something like a crown comb, which is a duplex (divided comb) with sides like a single comb to form a crown, with indent or hollow in middle.
Yours has the duplex comb of the Polish, sides like the single breed, but then this weird stuff in the middle which is almost like pea comb rows but coming out as crown spikes. You can get some weird stuff indeed with mixing breeds and comb types.

I can see the two points of the V from the polish in him, right at the top. Yes, it is a him like others have said. Lovely colours on him.

How do you tell that it is a him not a her?? People seem certain -and I have suspected for about a week, but I’m wondering what specifically gives it away? Here is a pic of one of the other 2 I got - the other 2 are nearly identical. Thanks
That does sound worrying.I have several other breeds that are a week younger with way more developed combs - all of which are supposed be 90% chance of being pullets. I really hope I don’t have a bunch of cockerels - I can’t keep roosters here.

polish hens don't have a V at all on their combs. I can see the V starting on your bird.
yes, i see that, and based on their mixed combs I see the V part from the polish parent on your cockerel. If it was a pullet then it wouldn't have the V at all, whether polish mix or pure polish as its a male trait. I think I'm correct in this but if someone more knowledgeable in genetics comes along then I will defer to themThe breeder I got them from said they were Polish mixed with Orpingtons.
