My Ameraucana hens sometimes lay eggs that have weird spots that look like oil spots on the egg. No texture. Just spots. Anybody know what these are? Not concerned just curious. Also my Columbian Rocks (who lay tan eggs) have reddish spots that also look like oil. Again, just curious.

I wouldn't be too worried about them. Eggs come with different types of spots and features. But it also may be something. Is the Ameraucana looking healthy?

Yes. One i noticed has had an empty crop the last two night that i have checked but she eats as soon as she comes out of the coop and doesn't seem to be losing weight. All of them are healthy, one has a minor canker sore but i have been treating it and it is going away.

well, if the hen is healthy, I dont think there is much chance of the spots being harmful, but I won't pressure you into eating them!

Can you take a photo of what you are describing. ....I'm not sure what I'm picturing is accurate, but suspect is something I've seen before, is related to the bloom and is not in any way concerning as far as safety/quality of the egg.

I'll try to post something soon. Is is concerning as far as the hen that is laying? Does it affect her?
