Odd pipping...what to do?

Yeah, some like to take their own sweet time and others prefer to just bust right out of there! I have 5 that pipped last night that are just now starting to zip. I'm sure they'll zip soon. Run to the store - that'll do it!!

Hatching is not for people with no patience; I'm learning that quickly!

And I'm sure it's not just your silkies; they're all ugly till they get fluffy!

I'm just going to wait it out on the other one. Afraid to jeopardize the pipped ones for one that is probably already gone. When there's no pipped eggs left, then I'll check it out. It's a shame too because it was doing fine! I don't understand what happened. The good part is that I have 26 healthy hatched ones so I can't complain.

What exactly is dry hatch? My humidity must be way too high. I had it at between 65-68% starting at day 18 (before that it was 40-45%). Once the chicks started hatching, it jumped WAY up, even as far as 85%. When none are hatching, it's about 71%. The first few chicks that hatched were wet but not nearly as wet as these later ones. The later ones still have their cords attached too - could the humidity be why?

my
favorite 'why did THIS happen with my hatch?' website...

Sign: Unhealed navel; dry, rough down feathers. Causes:

High incubator temperature or wide fluctuations in temperature.

Low temperature in hatcher.

Humidity too high in hatcher or not lowered when hatching complete.

Inadequate breeder nutrition.

Thank you both - those are wonderful articles. I guess I'm safe to pull that egg out because I think it's gone. Probably humidity too high

Thank you!

Now I have two screaming Silkies, and five pips. The one that bled still hasn't come out, but it is breathing fine.
