This morning I went out to feed my birds and they freaked out! My rooster was actually flying into the walls. It dawned on me that this morning was the first time I wore a new coat. This is the new coat and the next picture is the old coat. After this conclusion I had my husband wear it out to them and sure enough, the same thing happened! Has anyone experienced this before? I will be returning the coat today.

Don't take the coat back, let them get used to it.
I use my voice to let them know, "Hey, it's just me the feed bringer".
I did try to talk to them this morning and sprinkle food down. I thought my rooster was going to break his neck. I debated about keeping it, although I really wasn’t crazy about the color myself, but I worried how long it would take them to relax. They have started to lay. I don’t want to mess that up. I will look for a darker shade.

They may react to any new thing like that.

I had the same thing that happened to me. I went out to my chickens once, wearing my tennis shoes instead of my boots. My rooster actually got his hackles up at me, which I promptly put an end too. I returned later that day, wearing my rubber boots, and he was completely fine with me. I realized that he had disliked the laces. I had never worn my tennis shoes out to the chickens, and haven't since, mainly because I only wear my boots out there.

So yes, it does happen. But I agree with @rosemarythyme . Your chickens shouldn't dictate your fashion choices ;)

Just to be contrary I would've gone back out in the boots with the laces tied around them.
