OEG Coloring

Can anyone explain the differences in Black Breasted Red and Wheaten coloring. I can't see that there is an obvious difference. I can't believe how many colors that have been developed for the OEG breed! I picked up a pair this weekend and wasn't sure of their coloring specifics. -Wish I had pics. The hen/Anabel - body is pale off white with pastel buff/gold neck and blue gray in the tail feathers. The roo/Hector just looks like a standard BB Red color to me(then again...they also favor the Wheaten colored pair on Ideals OEG page). Thanks.

In reguard to distribution of black, the wheaten and b.b. red males are identical. they differ only in shade of red in the hackle, saddle,back, wing bow and wing bay. In the female is where the difference is..The chicks will be white with possible light stripes, whereas the B.B. reds down color will be darker with even darker stripes

Wheaten hens have the same color on their back as they do on their breast, bbred hens have different colors...
I Probably didnt explain that well.

I was just wondering the same thing, because I bought a trio of girls for my roo Buddy this weekend. I always thought he was a BB Red, but now that I look at the differences between Red and Wheaton, I see that Wheaton appears to have what I call "flame" coloring, where the red is solid on the neck and hackles. It's apparent to me now that Buddy is Wheaton and I bought him red girls.

You can tell the Wheaton hens from the Red ones by the breast. Wheaton hens have a pale colored breast, where the Red ones have a darker, reddish breast.
