OEGB or Serama? I think I did not get what I paid for...

Well, I think I was very polite, but firm in my e-mail. I stated that not just one person, but multiple think that they are not Seramas, but OEGB's. I told her that I'm not looking to get a refund, but I would like to get the Seramas that were in our original agreement. I explained my daughter's high anxiety and that she has already become attached to these birds, and that while OEGB's were not what I wanted, it looks like we're stuck with them, and I can't take them from her. I went on to say that I was happy with other birds I've bought from her (a White Orpington chick and a D'Anver pullet), but that I am not happy with the two supposed Seramas. I left the ball in her court. I told her I'd like to resolve this situation, so hopefully she gets back to me soon, and doesn't get upset with me. If she were in my shoes, she'd know why I'm so upset! She hasn't had to care for my child for the last nearly 12 years, and she hasn't had to experience the melt downs and the vomiting and the crying jags, I have! I had to assure my daughter that she could keep her OEGB's. It isn't her fault that we were sold birds that weren't what they were suppose to be, and why punish her by taking them away? But I still want my Seramas.

I received a PM from someone tonight about Jerry, and I think it's wonderful that he would do that for kids. I'll be contacting our 4-H poultry club leader to see if he can send the letter for us. I spent the last of my bird money on these birds I got from this breeder, so I'll have to figure out where I'll pull this new money from. But I'll find it for my baby girl. She's such a good girl and all she has ever asked for since we first got chickens was a frizzle hen, and Seramas. It's my younger daughter that demands all the different birds, lol. But she knows that she got everything she asked for this year, and that now it was her sister's turn. So to not get what I paid for, that hurts. So I'm hoping to resolve this soon and be done with this.

We'll probably breed the OEGB's come spring, and hopefully we can get some sweet little birds that my DD can spoil rotten like she is doing their parents.

Good luck getting some seramas! The people on SCNA are very nice and knowledgeable.

You may want to link this post as well and see what the people on there say about the situation and the three birds you did get. I'd be curious about whether they think the last hen is a serama or not. It would also be good for them to be aware that someone is trying to sell "seramas" that aren't actually seramas, they often end up contacting the person and talking to them about the situation because they don't want sellers ripping off people who are trying to buy seramas. I'd put it in the Ethics section.

Ok I'm am posting here because I SOLD HER THE BIRD... And as much as some might think I am honest. So let me clear somethings up..

1st I never said I have over 700 birds I said 200 and over 120-150 are Chicks or now juvies. These birds in question.... I bought the older hen who I was told was less than a year old (so sold her as almost a year old.. Not 6mo old like was said in the first post) with 2 roosters in I'm wanting to say April as that's when I first got into chickens and her and those 2 boys were my first seramas ever. I bought them in an auction here on BYC.. The next trio I bought was that cockerel and the younger pullet as well as a pullet I still have too and those were from a swap in KY and from another BYC member who I set up to buy them from and I was told they were 4-5mo old in June when I got them so 5-6mo old when she got them from me not a year old as stated.. My pullet just staryed to lay and she too is calming down now but I'm thinking she's only just now 6mo old. So same for those two I think.. Still not a year old like said. I sold these birds as seramas because to me they looked like seramas and I was sold them as seramas.. I would NEVER sell someone regardless of who they are of what problems they have something under faulse pretenses. So I'm sorry if you feel "I knew exactly what I was doing" when I sold them to you but I sold you I thought and was told were seramas and never once said after I showed you pics you had to buy them at the swap. We agreed on what we both thought was a fair price and you took them home with you. I even told you I haven't sold any of them as I was building my own flock. I have still only ever tried to sell 3 cockerels since you bought them for everyone who thinks I sell oegb off as seramas for a living I don't. Now seeing a pic of the rooster grown up some I too think he doesn't look serama anymore but he looked it to me when he was a little younger and that's what I was told he was so I too didn't know he wasn't and I'm sorry for that. I just don't know what everyone wants me to do when I guess some of the seramas I have may not be 100%...

I must quote this because you are not telling the truth in the above quoted part.

I NEVER ever claimed to have over 700 birds on my farm I said over 200. And I NEVER said I hatched these birds out never ever did I or would I say that. The oldest serama I have that I hatched just started to lay.. Well I think it's he laying and the next oldest seramas I have that I hatched are maybe 10-12 weeks old (im not home.. Nor in state rigt now due to a family emergancy so can look it up). I have said I was hatching chicks but never said it was these birds.

I did NOT sell them to you to be mean to your little girl! I would never sell someone something under false pretencese on purpose nor to just be mean as you are making it out I did.

I told you when you first asked I might have serama chicks come chickenstock when I got my first seramas and had eggs going (that I got 1 chick from because I was a newbie at incubating) and then when I made arrangements to by my next trio ( this boy and younger girl in question) I thought surly I could let some go come then.. Then when I bougt another trio at that swap when I picked them up I like better I offer you a trio and you said you wanted them. You asked for pics and at the time I only had internet through my phone and asked you to email me you email addy as I couldn't upload pics to byc through my phone and I emailed you pics of the d'anver the cuckoo maran you wanted at the time tha you back out of before the swap then said at the swap you didn't but you pmed me saying you didn't want her and pics of this trio.

I'm sorry if you feel like I scammed you and you think I did it to hurt your daughter. I NEVER would scam anyone nor would I try to hurt you daughter.

OP, did you do your homework before buying these birds? Did you see the birds before you bought them? If you were looking for Seramas, and you knew what a Serama looks like, and you chose to buy these birds, you got what you paid for. You were not swindled just because you don't like them now. Many Seramas have OEGB stature. They shouldn't, but they do. You should love the birds that you chose to purchase, or you should sell them and know what you want in the future.

I've been in a situation where I bought what turned out to be mixes. They were sold to me as pure. I truly blame myself because I should have known more about the breeds before buying them, thinking they were pure. I hold no ill will towards the seller, it truly is buyer beware in the chicken world. People are out there to screw you so you always have to be careful. (Not directing that to the seller, I mean in general you really have to be careful.) Do your research and get from reputable breeders. I'm sorry you and your daughter are so upset. Truly they are still lovely looking birds. If I were in your shoes, I would tell my daughter that sometime soon you can get a few true seramas but for now these are going to be her chickens. If you put a positive outlook on it, chances are she will too.
