Blackout stared as the human sat up, fully healed.
His eyes shifted to Whitestar. The Icewing looked almost afraid of something.
Blackout stepped around the human, who was also staring in surprise. He whapped him gently with his tail again, a silent command; stay.
Blackout slowly approached the white dragon. In his mind, he was shocked. He hadn't seen an Animus maybe ever. This was an incredible development, and he was both shocked and excited about it.
But he pushed it out of his mind as he laid a talon on Whitestar's frigid scales.
"Good job." He said quietly. "You did the right thing." He moved his talon and stood close to the Icewing, knowing just being a companion would be better than trying to offer all sorts of words.
His mind was spinning. An Animus????
It explained a little bit of why Whitestar was so concerned to do certain things; he didn't want to endanger himself or anyone else.
The whole soul-draining thing would be enough for anyone to worry about using their powers, let alone an already concerned Icewing.
He snapped out of his mental trance and glanced at Austin. The hunter was staring in surprise at the human who had just been healed by a dragon. He answered the unspoken question.
"We care. No matter the life, we care." His voice was missing it's normal edge that it held when he spoke to Austin.
For a moment, Blackout looked at Austin with almost a certain pity. He had been raised to think a certain way, and it was clear with how Austin acted around others.
Blackout shook his head now. No. No pity for this human.
No matter how you're raised, you can always choose better than you were taught, he thought.
Austin watched as the dragons conversed, his mind automatically translating. Blackout moved from guarding him towards the icy dragon but not before taking another moment to whack Austin with his tail.
Just like a child....so petty. No wonder you couldn't act civilized without our influence. Blackout placed a claw comfortingly on the ice dragon's shoulder, whispered something to the icewing, and answered the question that Austin hadn't spoken. "We care. No matter the life, we care."
He'd expected some sort of snarky comment from the dragon, but the tone of his voice almost seemed...sincere.
Never....they could never be. But....could they? No! They could never be! They're monsters. He pushed the kind thoughts that he'd had about the dragons out of his mind and instead fixed the black dragon with a stare and raised his eyebrow questioningly. He began to think over his options. He could try to run, but the dragons would catch him too quickly, and they would probably kill him on the spot this time. He couldn't fight his way out with no weapons, but maybe.....
His gaze drifted towards the young girl who was excitedly speaking to the dragon who had tried to help her in the first place. He couldn't make out what she was saying, but he could tell by her excited tones that she was passionate about what she was saying.
Very excited...I wonder if she even knows what these creatures can do.
He walked towards her, determined to get her on his side. Part of him was also genuinely curious to why she was hanging around dragons. Glancing quickly to the other dragons, he held up his hands in a peaceful manner. He didn't plan on doing anything.
Yet. The dragons seemed to be in their own conversation so Austin continued.
As he got closer, he noticed more of her features. Her long black hair was a mess, but was still almost pretty. Her face was strong with a gentle touch. But, he almost gasped at her eyes. They were so blue. Beautifully and strikingly blue. And, they were almost...dragon-like.
How can a human have such dragon-like eyes? They were innocent and sweet. He almost felt bad for planning on using her to escape, but he pushed it away realizing that this was his only chance.
He approached her and smiled, "I see you're feeling better." He hoped he wasn't forcing his kind tone.
A confused and skeptical look swept across her face, but it was quickly replaced by her excitement , "Yes, yes actually I am! A lot better!" The glow in her eyes was contagious and Austin started to smile a genuine smile.
He laughed a little and took a step closer to her, but one look at the dragons made him halt in his tracks.
Bad idea. He instead looked back at the girl and introduced himself, "My name is Austin. May I ask yours?"
