Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

For the next two weeks, Cersei faithfully visited my lot, coming back from work with me every night.
The SolarWing began to move. He began to step out of his cage, both mentally and physically. But most importantly- he began to trust.
We started out slow.
My daily routine with the dragon didn’t change much. I’d make him unfurl his wings completely, stretch the tight muscles in his back legs and foretalons, and I’d lead him around the lot, watching his muscles tense and spasm in pain and fear.
He was on multiple pain drugs, but it was always an adventure to get him to accept the medicine. I could no longer pin him down, or force him to take a serum by mouth- he was much too strong, even though he was still healing and sick.
The dragon was never aggressive with me.
Even when I forced each, tight claw back, helping work the blood down into his continually clenched, pale back-talons.
Even when I reopened closed wounds to clean the injury out and keep infection at bay.
Even when Cersei and I would corral him to the back corner, and pin his neck against the cell bars so that one of us could administer whatever medicine necessary.
He hid pain well when he was the one in control. But if I ever had to restrain him in any way, the horrid fear would return, the awful terror. His breaths would come in short, desperate gasps of anticipation, and he’d wear himself down over nothing. It wasn’t good for him, and I knew it. But what else was there to do? Sedatives were hard on the body, and I feared I’d reset our progress completely if I stole the SolarWing’s consciousness.
Sometimes silent tears would roll down his broad cheeks as I worked, leaving me to wonder whether they were my doing, or the tramazing fear that never left his eyes.
It hurt to see any creature this way, but every ounce of pain felt by the dragon only kindled my fierce loyalty towards him.

The dragon began to listen to me, too, his ears and eyes alert as I spoke and moved. He began to grow eager every night when I returned from work, waiting silently at the cage door.
He still hadn’t spoken to me with his own voice, his own words, but I knew he was capable of the action due to the countless nights I awoke to the dragon's fevered dreams. He would say words with little meaning, sometimes stringing them together to create a nonsensical sentence, or he’d mutter bits and pieces, leaving me to guess, and try to connect dots which never really existed.
Progress was being made, albeit slowly, but progress all the same.
A new hope began to germinate, and I looked at the SolarWing with a caring, loving air, no longer holding back reserved emotions for the creature, my spirit considerably lifted.

“So.” Cersei started, trotting up to my side. “Have you thought of a name?”
This was a question which had been nagging at me for weeks.
Last night, before she left, Cersei had tried to coax the dragon into speaking. We wanted to learn his name. He had stared back at her with gentle, knowing eyes, but remained silent, eventually growing tired of her questions.
“Yeah,” I nodded, stopping beside my lot door, “but I want to hear what you came up with first.” I pushed the door open.
Cersei moved straight for the dragon, her dark, straight hair tied back in a disastrous clump.
He was waiting for us, his ears alert, standing beside the cage door.
“I couldn’t really come up with anything good.” Cersei admitted, opening the cage door. “Honestly, I don’t feel like I know him well enough yet. Every day he seems to change.”
I sighed. This was true. Somedays I would think we made significant progress, only to wake and find the SolarWing huddled in the far corner of the cage, tremors racking his spine.
His personality was never predictable.
I set my pack down beside my bed, retrieving the regular vials and a syringe, then moved towards the lab cage. “I know,” I offered Cersei the short, narrow vials. “But he’s gotten a bit better.”
Cersei took the vials as she entered the lab cage. “I’m getting rather tired of calling him ‘SolarWing.’”
Cersei reached towards the red dragon, and he jerked his head away, retreating a few steps back. I frowned, leaning up against the cage bars as Cersei whispered a quick apology, slowing her movement.
He pulled away from her again, stumbling back quickly, and I motioned Cersei towards me, recognizing the all too familiar look of fear in the dragon’s eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Cersei whispered, meeting my gaze for a moment as she backed against the cage bars.
With a quick shake of my head, I walked around the cage, keeping the bars between us as I approached the dragon.
I was pleased to see him putting weight on his left wing and back talon. He usually favored the entire left side of his body, due to a torn ligament in his left shoulder, and an infection in the back of his left heel.
The dragon approached me with a calm air, and I extended my hand, running fingers along his curved cheekbone.
I glanced back at Cersei with a playful grin. "How the tables have turned."
She smiled, but shook her head, advancing slowly towards the dragon. "I must be missing something…"
Immediately he rushed back, trapping himself in the corner, crouching low to the ground.
My heart leapt as a low growl vibrated through the lot.
"Cersei, get out." I whispered, nodding towards the cage door, not daring to move.
Cersei froze, and I could see the hurt in her eyes.
But the SolarWing crouched lower to the ground, bearing his teeth, legs shaking as he awoke weak muscles.
"Get out." I repeated, and Cersei listened, backing away slowly.
The dragon's growling died out as Cersei retreated, slipping out of the cage a moment later.
His eyes followed her across the room, and I could see him struggling to focus as he stumbled to counter her movement, shifting to the opposite end of the cage.
"What do you think it is?" Cersei asked quietly.
English was my first language- but hearing her speak it in my lot somehow caught me off guard. I was so used to speaking Dragon around the SolarWing, it took me a moment to reply.
"I wonder…" I began in English, trailing off when the SolarWing's ears moved flat against his head. I switched back to Dragon. "Take your hair out, Cer. I wonder if he can't recognize you."
Cersei hardly ever tied her hair back. I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen it pulled away from her face, but the idea of this upsetting the dragon seemed quite probable, given that nothing else about Cersei had changed even remotely.
It might be a stretch, but worth a shot.
I took the vials from Cersei as she removed the binder, her black hair brushing her shoulders as she looped the band around her wrist.
She approached the SolarWing, holding her hands out, and I found myself holding my breath, hoping my reasoning was correct.
"Hey, bud. It's just me." Cersei whispered, stopping in front of the cage doorway. "Just me." She offered her empty hand, and I watched the fear dissipate from his eyes.
"There we go." I breathed. "Maybe he's struggling to see. Strange that he couldn't recognize you."
"Strange that he responded that way." Cersei mumbled, and I was in complete agreement.
I had yet to hear the dragon growl, or see him respond with any sort of aggression. It was unnerving to see him go so far- the dragon had no fire restricting drugs in his system, nor had he been fitted with the commonly seen shock collars so many trainers used to keep the dragon in line. I’d hate to use anything of that sort and risk a setback on our already fragile relationship.
But the SolarWing truly was dangerous. He could easily kill us both if he desired to do so.
"Do you think he's okay?" Cersei asked, nodding when the dragon nudged her hand, taking a step forward.
I joined Cersei, offering the vials once again.
The SolarWing stepped back, moving out of Cersei's reach.
No way.
I moved my hand back.
No. He was smart. Of course he had recognized Cersei. It was the drugs, the vials which had scared him away.
Yes, I used syringes and vials around the SolarWing regularly, and he had been on multiple medications for the past several weeks- but just today I had added one to the mix. Straight biotin. It wasn’t even that important. I wanted to bring the shine back to the SolarWing's dull, sickly scales.
I wasn't sure how the dragon had noticed the added vial. It looked no different than the five other slender bottles. Perhaps he'd seen me collecting the vials from across the room, perhaps he had noticed me add the sixth. Whatever the case, a sudden realization crept down my spine.
Had he really fooled us this entire time?
He was smart. He was stupid smart. And, though continually blinded by broken fear, I had a feeling this dragon was so much more that he seemed.
We only saw the fear and the pain.
Oh, how I desired to be in his mind, to read his thoughts, to know what was really going on in his mind.
The SolarWing met my gaze with a knowing look.
I shivered, scoffing in awe.

Yah, yeh, YAA, it's GUNNA GET exciting, gotta build it, yo. Appreciate feedback.

(Right, I'm gonna say the average Nightwing patrol is 2-5, I am gonna say this one is 4 plus the leader, Starholder. We down to 3 now.)

Alicanto directed the warping blade at the Nightwing swooping in front of him, the blade piercing the hunter's throat as the Cloudwing spiraled sideways out of her collision course. Starholder dropped toward him again and Alicanto dodged sideways, feeling the Nightwing's talons brush his feathers.
He was exhausted. This fight could have been an easy win if it weren't for how positively drained he felt. His neck was exposed where Sol had burned the feathers away, and if one of the Nightwings got a hold of him, there weren't even scales to protect him there.
Alicanto cursed out loud as Starholder caught his tail, yanking the Cloudwing backwards and throwing Alicanto off balance.
For a moment, it was nothing but empty air around him as he thrust his wings out, trying to twist mid-fall and regain his control. He righted himself, flaring his wings back to slow himself and then beating them furiously, expecting the Nightwing to be behind him again. Alicanto didn't half to glance back to now, a moment later, the large dragon's wingbeats were cutting the air behind him. His warping blade returned to him again, twisting around and launching blindly over his shoulder.

(There is one other Nightwing fighting them, ima let Ajax and Vel take care of it while Ali manages the leader.)
Vel slammed into a third, small NightWing, ripping her talons into his throat.
Why was this so easy.
Oh- wait. Because they were brainwashed idiots, that's riiiiight.
She sprayed more venom wildly at the fourth NightWing as he dived towards the CloudWing. The black dragon proceeded to get impaled by a warped spear.
Freaky demon liquid magic.
Vel watched the last, large NightWing slam into the CloudWing.
Ouch.

Crest had moved from the cave. He watched the prince return with many other dragons and they all looked injured in some way. Dragons and humans began to be moved into transports after a while and Crest decided to stay behind in case he was needed. He was still not in the most ideal condition for helping, but he would never admit it. Eventually, Prince Sol and the others were moved into the transport and he was going to follow, but a solarwing and a small icewing caught his eye. He made his way over to them and overheard some of what they were saying. The solarwing was with the lunarwing when I saw them first. I wonder if the solarwing wants to wait for the lunarwing. He slowly walked to them, "Excuse me, are you two going to get on the transport or is there a problem?"

Sunspot turned quickly, stifling a snarl as she realized it was Crest, the SeaWing from the truck yard.
“Problem?” She said with a slight edge to her voice. “No. I’m waiting for a… friend. Not that it’s any of your business.”

She wasn’t sure wether Eclipse counted as a friend yet. This SeaWing definitely didn’t.
Half of Sage expected this and half of him was caught off guard. Gripping his chain, he spread his large wings and launched into the air after the cloudwing. The wind messed with his hair, blowing it into his face and giving him a crazier look. Sage's blue eyes narrowed as the cloudwing dove into the trees. He waited, watching the black figure slip in and out of view underneath him. He followed the black fethers from above and kept his hawk-like eyes on the zipping figure. Seeing the pattern in his flying, Sage sped up, his wings sending him shooting forward. His smaller size with the dragon-like wings made him quick and nimble in the air, and he intended to use that.
He eyed a spot in front of what he assumed was the cloudwing's path and tore through the air. Releasing his wings again, he caught himself and slowed down slightly. But he kept enough to make this work. Sage sped through an opening in the trees and used his talons to grip the cloudwings shoulders and dove to the ground. The dirt quickly came up to meet them and Sage rolled over the ground, quickly spinning and getting to his feet and gripping his chain, ready to use.
"We can help you acheive anything, cloudwing. Just name it...."
He locked eyes with the cloudwing. "What do you really want?"

Corvus felt a few feathers snap painfully as he hit the ground. He rolled to his feet quickly, snarling.
“Lies,” he hissed. “Everything Vulture says is. Whatever he promised you is a lie too. He doesn’t love a thing on this earth.”

His mind raced. He sized up the mutant in front of him, noting the chain in the clawed hand, as well as a gun at his hip. Flying away might get Corvus shot.

But Vulture knowing Corvus’ location scared him. How did he know? Did the Nest have spies?

King?

He discarded that thought fairly quickly, but it wasn’t impossible.

Corvus stood frozen, each waiting for the other to move.

"Facts, bro." Kassa leaned against the wall, settling down against the cool metal beneath. "It's because they work together. Like- for years they've been a thing, so they, yah know, get along and stuff. Real good friends."
Kal smirked glancing at Sol.
"Not even close." The red dragon mumbled, still resting against Tobias.
Kassa shrugged. "Sounded probable." He turned his gaze back to Cas. "So, what about you, though? Where you from, dude? Prolly somewhere rreeeaalllyy sikk, eh?"

@Blue Raptor
“Oh yeah, it’s only like, the coolest place on Pyrrhia EVER.” Cas tossed his head; “Sky Kingdom. Jealous? Heh- naturally.” The red dragon smirked arrogantly. “Where do you two hobos hail from?”

Alicanto's headache spiked unbearably as Starholder smashed into him, sending him spiraling uncontrolled out of the sky again. This time, there wasn't enough space between him and the ground to catch himself.
He hit the sand and half tumbled half skidded over the ground, stopping several wing lengths from one of the highways. He opened his eyes, blinking the darkness out of the fringes of his vision as pain flared through his body and his skull, making his mind spin dizzyingly.
A black shape blotted out the pale, dawn sky above him and impulsively, he lept aside, stumbling as his aching limbs protested from the sudden movement. He snapped his jaws at Starholder as the Nightwing tried to leap on top of him and he rolled out of the way of the hunter's claws. He backed up as Starholder slashed furiously at his head, a loud snarl rising from both dragon throats.
Alicano's back leg landed on hard ground, and the sound of a car horn blaring tore his focus away from the hunter. He sprung away, the vehicle skidding as it nearly hit his tail and Starholder lurched backwards off the concrete path.
Another horn blared. Something slammed into Alicanto's side, his mind slowed by exhaustion, stealing any time he had to react.
Metal crunched, something in the Cloudwing's side collapsed and snapped.
Alicanto's head slammed against the pavement, splitting pain tearing through his skull, his teeth piercing his tongue, blood springing into his mouth.
Ringing in his ears blotted out the sound of the wailing car alarm and horns blaring from the other vehicles. Alicanto groaned, trying to move his legs beneath him.
A heavy talon landed on his neck, forcing him back down. Alicanto tried to push back, every muscle in his body screaming in opposition.

"Heck." Kal shrugged.
Kassa nodded. "Yeah, we've been in The Den. The whole dang time. Born in Yair-, uh, Roe's dad's lot? So, it wasn't that bad of a life for us. We had Roe. She sold off every other dragon when she took over the lot, even the fancy killer ones. But she kept the RainWings."
"Her mistake." Kal commented.
"Her mistake." Kassa agreed.
"Dude, how long were you in The Den for?" Kal asked, poking Cas' shoulder. "Cuz, friggin depressing we haven't met until now."

Vel landed beside the pavement, grimacing at the totalled, crumpled cars. No human could have survived that.
The CloudWing was pinned. That was good.
But then the NightWing closed his talons around the silver dragons exposed neck, reopening cauterized wounds. That was not so good.
Vel watched as the CloudWing jerked in pain, unable to throw off the giant NightWing.
She was actually quite similar in stature to the black dragon, he was hardly taller, but she was equally as burly and muscled, an advantage she was sure they both used frequently.
The NightWing slammed his a talon down on the back of the CloudWing's head, throwing the silver dragon across the sand a moment later as a car whizzed by.
The CloudWing rolled, but Vel could still see him flailing, trying to catch himself. She found herself relieved that the dragon wasn't dead. His bleeding neck and freshly bashed head were going to throw him off terribly, she was certain of it, giving her enough time to take out the NightWing before the CloudWing was conscious enough to do anything strategic. She hoped.
Vel vanished, trotting towards the NightWing as he moved slowly towards the silver dragon with a wide grin.
In just seconds she had shot enough venom to kill- most of it had missed, yes, but it still looked kinda cool.
The NightWing seized up in pain, the poison burning just below his right eye as it bubbled.
Vel spat more venom, aimed just below the dragon's cheek bone.
He roared, dropping his head to the ground, then whipping back and forth, retreating backwards, rushing, rushing- straight into the freeway.
It was a loud crash.
Vel wished she could have stopped it, because the driver most definitely died.
The semi careened into the dragon's head. The NightWing's neck snapped on the impact.
Vel watched, emotionless. The black dragon smoked. The semi careened through the sand, flipping vertically.
She turned back to the CloudWing, numb.
What was happening.

What was happening.
Alicanto could see Starholder pacing toward him, stepping off the highway and onto the sand again.
No.
The Cloudwing tried to push himself up, his chest burning with every panting, strained breath he took.
I can still fight.
Rage was coursing through his veins. Weirdly, none of it was directed at the Nightwing. He was furious with himself.
I... I'm shaking.
Furious for showing weakness. Furious for losing to the hunter.
No.
His limbs trembled as he tried to put his weight on them.
I am not weak.
His forearms gave out again as he tried to stand up, and he gasped as his chest flared when his ribs hit the ground again.
"I am not..." his breath came out strained, but the essence of a growl touched his voice.
"I am not... weak..."
He forced his legs beneath him again.
"I. Am not. Weak."
He pressed himself up, still shaking, fighting against the pain. Fury pulsing through his body.
A stream of sickly black liquid shot toward Starholders head, most of it missing and landing sticky on the sand. The Nightwing recoiled with a howl of pain and more venom splattered onto his face from the invisible enemy.
Alicanto barely had time to comprehend what happened. In a matter of horrific seconds, Starholder was dead, and the truck was lying totaled in the sand on the other side of the highway. Cars were stopped or wrecked along the road, some of the humans standing outside their vehicles, others scrambling to retrieve any others among the wreckage.
Alicanto's blurred eyes drifted back to Vel. The Rainwing was staring blankly at him. Her scales didn't shift with any emotions the Rainwing was feeling, if she was feeling them at all. For a moment, Alicanto stared back at her in shock, finally managing to stay on his feet.
"You helped me..." he rasped, his voice cracking from the lack of breath.
"Why?"
