Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

Austin saw the stare Whitestar was giving him and it almost scared him in a way. He hadn't been scared of a dragon in a long while, but the situation was stressing him out and he knew that Whitestar had the power to give him away.
Finally, the dragon answered, "I'm an Icewing. I thought that was obvious."
Austin cringed a little at the ending comment. Yeah, make the guard who doesn't like us mad at us.
The anger on the guard's face was evident and he looked back at Austin, "This how you raise your dragons? To be smartmouths?" He turned back to the dragon and answered the question angrily, "If you must know, there was a breakout from the rebellion. Dragons like you killin friends of mine to escape and not gettin punished for it. Dragons like you-"
Austin interrupted, keeping his professional demeanor he walked over to the guard and pulled him aside, "No, sir, trust me he will be reprimanded," Austin said quietly. "It's my fiance, see. She tends to spoil them. She just adores dragons."
The guard scoffed, "Well, then this is no place for her! She better leave or she's going to be upset by every activity we do here."
Austin laughed and nodded his consent, "Yes, sir, I know. But, she wanted to come. I'm worried though, that the activities and things have scared her and she went to hide. That's why we're looking for her currently." Putting on his best worried face, he looked the guard in the eyes, "I hope you can understand my predicament."

Whitestar felt his lips start to curl at the snide comment from the guard, but he forced his snarl down, fixing a cold but steady composure on his face. Which, of course, only grew harder as the human continued.
"Dragons like me" don't want anything to do with the abuse you put them through, and it's shocking how blindly you expect them to accept a life like that.
Whitestar's tail lashed as the bitter thought burned through his mind and it took everything he had not to say it aloud, instead, listening in silent fury to the conversation between Austin and the Den guard.
How stupid are these humans?
He thought back to Alyssia, worry slightly dampening his rage. She was the only human he'd seen or even heard of having an ounce of sympathy and understanding for dragons. Why was it so impossibly rare to find one that had all of their screws in place?
And now she was missing, vanished somewhere into the deadly, twisting halls of the Den. And what was Austin doing about it? Running scared for the exit without her. He wasn't really trying.
An idea was slowing bubbling up in Whitestar's mind and he glanced back at the two humans before sidestepping slowly, quietly toward the nearest hall.

Vel gave a short nod.
"You take care of him, then? I'll be back real soon. Pray I find something."

Yeah.

“I will.” Ajax replied, plopping back down on the ground close to Alicanto. He watched as Vel left, then switched his gaze to Alicanto.
Why did I sign up for this? I don’t know how to take care of a dying dragon. Ajax thought, smacking his head with a talon silently.

Vel had never hunted before.
Where was one to seek food in the mountains? There were plenty of plants, yes, but how was one to know if they were that dangerous kind of sort that killed you the moment you swallowed?
Vel was hesitant. Very hesitant. There were few plants she could truly recognize for absolute certain, and even then not nearly enough quantity to feed three dragons.
She found an abandoned orchard with bad apples and over-ripe limes, as well as small human house, which had been left to rot-out in the humid valley air. She returned to her companions hours later, bearing rotted apples, and squished limes. She cut out the small chunks of what appeared to be edible for Alicanto, and gave the rest to Ajax, washing the fruit through the steam before allowing them to eat any of it.
She had gathered herbs growing up a sloped valley, dandelions, lavender, lemon balm, and maybe stems of dill- it smelled like dill, but it was short and stringy. There were bugs eating it. Maybe dragons could eat it then, too.

"How's that?" Vel asked, scooping up Ajax's left over lime rind. She ate it, then rinsed her talons in the river. "Let's go in an hour. When the sun's set, eh? I can't bear this blasted heat."

After eating his meal, Ajax felt a lot better. “Sure. What should we do in the meantime?” He asked, his stomach silent once again.

"We have an hour. Wash up. We should clean him, too." She nodded to Alicanto, then sighed, letting her head sag. "Were you able to talk to him while I was gone? Has he woken up, or..?"

@Little Baby Bean

Alicanto could feel the throbbing in his head returning, his mind dragging at the noise around him half-consciously. He coughed silently, feeling the reminiscence of a bitter tang in his mouth and throat, partly sour, partly sweet, half dirt-tasting. His neck was stinging and he could feel heat pulsing through the feathers, making him uncomfortable. The longer he lay there, the more his mind pulled him toward reality, like an impatient dragonet. He shifted slightly with a small groan, feeling groggy and stiff.
"We have an hour. Wash up. We should clean him, too."
Alicanto could hear the voices more clearly now, and he kept still, listening, his mind registering the words slowly, but registering all the same.
"Were you able to talk to him while I was gone? Has he woken up, or..?"
I wonder who she's talking to, his mind drawled slowly, and he felt himself start to slide back toward sleep, forcing himself out of it a moment later.
He shifted again, stretching his legs out behind him, trying to work the stiff muscles. He flinched slightly at the movement, a pang shooting through the ribs on his side and his neck throbbing threateningly. He moved more slowly, shifting his head around in the direction of the noise and he forced his blurry eyes to open.
