In my experience, killing is only hard for the first one or two birds. After that it's a chore.
Not to pick on anyone, but I think our modern society makes people too sensitive about things like this. I don't mind killing my food because I know I'm going to do my best to ensure a quick, humane death and that the animal will be appreciated and respected from the killing cone to my dinner plate.
I have friends who think a dying chicken is hilarious to watch. I find the idea of finding humor in such a thing repulsive.
When my sisters and I were growing up the first butchering job we were entrusted with was killing the birds. I think it taught us a valuable lesson about where our food comes from and the price that is paid by the animal so we can eat. It did not make us vegans or make us cry but I'd like to think it helped us gain a new perspective on the value of our animals' lives.
Anyway, rant off... but I seriously think you will feel better about the whole thing if you just suck it up and kill a couple yourself. It's hard to explain, but I found butchering much easier on my soul when I took a hand in the killing. I found it harder on my conscience to hang back and let someone else do the "dirty work".
