I agree.
Ive worked with PETA for a couple of years though ( was a Vegetarian ) and they are very judge mental and prejudice (sp?) .

People say that I am over reacting when i REFUSE to allow my children to go to the circus!

Every year the circus comes to town and every year its a fight on why i wont let my children go..even DH gets on me about it until i showed him the research i did for a paper i was writing a few years ago about animal abuse.

I will let my children goto the royal winter fair here in toronto and i will let them go to the metro toronto zoo, but they will never as long as i have a say in things..they will never go to the circus or to african lion safari

in my opnion if you want ot go to a circus..go see cirque de soile...amaizing show and the performers ave a choice if they want to be there or not....

I think there may be 2 separate issues: 1) How animals are actually treated in the making. Yes they can do amazing things with CGI 2) How treating animals is portrayed. Both are reasons why the disclaimer is important. It's not really funny if an animal gets hurt. It's good to remind impressionable kids of that.

I don't like the "pony rides" where the ponies are attached to a sort of carousel and must walk around in a circle all day. I've never seen one where the ponies didn't look sweaty and exhausted. Those make me want to

I found the "behind the scenes" footage from LOTR on Arwen's ride to the river very interesting comentary on this. The movie shows a break neck ride across wild terrain. In real life, Liv is riding on a barrel for hours and hours and there's comparatively little involvement with a live horse at all.

On the other hand, even if the animals aren't in any danger at all--no where near danger--to portray them being mistreated should be seriously considered before it is done. I understand free speach and free everything else and am not suggesting censorship, so folks, don't get your undies in a bunch.

What I am trying to say that gratuitous violcence against women or children (or humans in general!) or animals should be used responsibly. If you want to make your artistic point, then make your point. But be aware that repeated viewing of things like this can desensitize people. KWIM?

I have to agree with mjsdhs. I'm 45 and went to my first circus last summer. I won't go again. To see such majestic animals like the elephants humiliated is to much for me. My feelings the whole time were "How can I save these animals".
