Hello all. My name is Jim and I manage and run a mini-farm for a digital marketing agency in Farmington, CT. Though my primary job at the company has nothing to do with farming, I direct an employee run farm, which consists of a 2600 sq ft garden, 24 chickens, and two bee hives.
We've had 11 of our chickens for just over a year and are in the process of integrating 13 pullets into the brood. We actually started with 24 a year ago, but the farm sold us a 12 rooster chicks (which were returned) and we lost one hen to a hawk.
We have a mix of Rhode Island Reds, Ameraucana, Black Australorp, Silver Sussex (incl. 1 rooster), and a Bantam Black Silkie. They have a 700 sq ft covered run that connected to the garden, which we let them into from time to time to help weed and fertilize. They are very happy.
I've been reading this forum for almost 2 years and decided that it would be even more useful to participate. So, here I am.
