Yum!

Seriously, bacon wrapped gouda stuffed ANYTHING is likely to be good.

I'll make you both a big tray of them. when we process the quail we fillet off the tiny breasts, then put a mix of gouda and a little egg white to keep it together (food processor is a help). Then we take a wlanut sized ball of the gouda, wrap the breast meat around it, and use the bacon to wrap the package shut. Then a fast pan fry so the bacon crisps and cheese melts, you're done when the first bit of melted cheese oozes out. it's super rich (quail are dark meat) each one is about the siz of a single chicken thigh. I serve it with an herbed wild rice and raspberry spinach salad and some reisling wine.

On a bright note, mr saddi's surgery went well yesterday, he's just a little sore this morning.

Yes, we should listen to Sparkles. Let your boys build the booby traps, enjoy the show.

If they need any additional input you can invite Saddi's boys for a play date. I think this would be right up there alley.

Oh gosh it would be. They've been watching the new scooby doo (which I love at 33, it's got some great referance to the origional, so there's jokes for the parents who grew up on that) Fred on there is obcessed with traps, and evan keeps comming up with ways to improve them. Yesterday was the end of season marathon, so the boys sat with mr saddi in bed and they watched it for like 10 hours, while he rested.

It's not bad. On fonts make sure it's readable for those a bit older as well. That is to say make sure you don't need to make a lady squint or fish out her reading glasses.

Oh jeeze, I am so distracted today! I read bacon on here and suddenly I feel like making bacon. Mmmmm. I have a presentation I have to finish today and a paper to write, but I think I'll just procrastinate here for a little bit.

That's beacuse he's convinced a "proceedure" isn't "surgery" (you know the whole men in thier 30's thinking they'll live forever thing)... They found the beginning of an ulcer (which i'd been fairly certain about for months) and some serious acid issues, so it was a scope and cut outpaitent deal.

I hate you. Now I want to raise quail.

Hope Mr Saddi gets well soon!

Now I want quail too.

My Walmart didnt have game cams in the hunting section. I am going to send Shaner down to Dick's Sporting Goods or Bass Pro Shops.

Grrr...

On another note, I got home to peeping in the incubator. The turkey babies are popping out three whole days early. YAY!

Quail are by far the easiest thing i've raised. 18 days to hatch, get them past the first 2 days, and they do the rest themselves. in 8 weeks they're plate sized, pull out your males (most colors are easy to feather sex ~4 weeks old), process those, split the girls in a 1:6 ratio with your largest males, and start collecting fertile eggs for the next batch. I use the surplus essg in the kids bento lunches, they have really cute hard boiled egg molds for them.

I think part of the reasoning behind the new bator was to eat more quail. Yesterday he suggested we move to a cabinet one after we move.

He'll be okay, just soft foods for a few days, of course he's milking that "wifey, would you make me another banana smootie? my throat's sore".

You aren't helping. How many does it take to make a meal for teenaged kids and HARD working active males? Like per person.

Pigeon, I mean squab, is tasty also and they are easy to raise. But I'm not sold on raising ratbirds.
