It is illegal to raise pigeons in Phx. That, and they are Naaaaassty. Diseased little hosers.

But there is no limit and no end to hunting season IN TOWN on ring-neck doves. ...also grody.

the kids asked to see a pigeon last night. I said "go to the barn, ner." then thought about going with them armed with birdshot for funseroos but didnt

Pretty much how I feel about them. But they are tasty eats, so I could massacre them with great joy for food. Well, as much joy as I get from processing, but I'd feel less attachment to ratbirds than to my chickens. Plus, they are easy as sin to raise.

Hrm. How much room do quails need?

2X3X1 holds 6. Mine live on my patio, so they have a box to get out of the weather and hide if they want. We stack these on a shelf 3 tall, like rabbit cages. (now my rabbits like in 16sqft 2 level bunny palaces, but that's mostly to do with thier indoor pet status.)

I mentioned Dicks because you mentioned it. SHEESH. Do you need props for EVERYTHING?

Stop touching the eggs, you tard. You cant see anything in turkey eggs until day 10-14 anyway.

Um, yes, prop me up baby. sheesh.

ALL I'm touching them for is to turn them b/c I'm cheap and wont buy a turner. Me being a tard is totally unrelated to hatching turkey eggs.

That depends on the people eating. If you were cooking up chicken thighs for the same group, how many would you need? The amount and taste is similar. I've lived in the city too long to consider raising pigeon for meat.

Hrm. And one quail makes two of these tasty morsels of goodness? Hrm. It'd be a lot, but there'd be less room than the chickens take up, and my kids will fight for dark meat, so it'd be all dark meat and small packages. Hrmmm.....

Ok, what breed is a good meat quail?

1 quail is a chicken thigh of meat. I raise corturnix, which are small but are mature in 6-8 weeks, so hatch to plate in less than 2 months.

Hayell yah, we are getting quail!!!!! Well, after I hatch at least. But there is gonna be quail raising going on here.

So you let the 6 produce fertile eggs, then post hatch and day 2, process the tasty birdies?

I have had a turkey egg eggsplode in the bator before. It took WEEKS to get the smell out of the house--because the thing died around day 18 and exploded around day 26. It was waaaaaaay full of bacteria and other awfulness.

AND I meant stop messing with the eggs, except for turning.

Hrm. So that'd be like erm 30 quail then. That's a lot, but not too bad. Plus that's still less room than the chickens.

My problem is quail are so cute, same thing with bunnies and cows. But they all sound so tasty

First time you see two males fighting, you'll be over the cute. Like bettas (fighting fish) it's a 1 male per territory or death deal. So if you don't harvest the males, they'll just kill each other.

That I did NOT know! hmmmmm I am now contemplating adding quail to the list of must haves for the new farm. Oh did I tell you guys the owner of the farm that we put a bid in on is being a butthead! We are presently at a stalemate of 140,000.00, he wants 150,000 and doesnt want to pay any closing and doesnt want to fix anything on the inspection report.

The acreage alone is only worth 4,000 an acre (17.5 acres= 70,000). They house needs massive work and only one well works. Plus the barns need lotsa work. Realtor said just to give him time to stew. Its been on the market for three years. Meanwhile...............I get to wait and dream.

I will wait and dream with you.

....and then sneak in and pay the idiot $150K and steal the house from you!

MAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
