I wish.

Its difficult because we go to church with her, her daughter used to babysit for me, and she lives like 2 houses from my mom.

I hate small towns.

I asked my old daycare lady if she ever notices my kids being bad when they do drop in with her and she said abosultely not. My kids tell me every day how much they hate it at the current daycare so I guess there are a lot of small things all adding up to make this big mess.

In a tiny town like this one tho, you don't get on the bad side of the pillars of the community. Hence my crying all night last night and all morning today. She could easily pass it around town that my kids are possessed or something and no daycare would ever take them again.

Aren't the kids getting closer to "latch key age" anyway? Or is this daycare after-school?

School doesnt start till Sept 6 for us. They aren't allowed to be home alone till they are like 12 here. Even for just an hour. If I get the job I applied for I could be home by the time the bus dropped them off. but summer daycare is the issue.

12? Really? That can't be a law. Surely that can't be a law. Especially in a farming community. I just...I am a little flabbergasted.

I was a latchkey kid at 5, and was my sister's sole caretaker by the time I was 7 (maybe earlier?) I'm 4 years older....so I was babysitting a toddler until my mom got home from work. I had to wear a key around my neck and everything.

I was babysitting 4 kids at a time by ten.

Now they have to be 11 to babysit and that can only be for like 2 hours.

MN is confusing, each county has their own rules. There is no state law.

ETA: They can drive tractors alone at like, 8 years old tho and thats ok..... MN is so weird.

Children 7 and under are not allowed home alone.

8 and up have different rules... Lars is 7, Danno is 6.

I keep thinking they are 7 and 9 for some reason.

Still, I can't imagine----I am conflicted here. I would never allow my kids home alone at 7. Maybe 9 or 10.

But sis and I were FINE most of the time, so long as we had neighbors we could go to in an emergency. Except for that time we set the carpet on fire, or the summer we spent stealing aluminum cans out of other people's back yards. Or that whole circus incident--but we healed up nicely.

Maybe girls really ARE different than boys?
