Is this Maple using a disguise?

No, heifercock uses capitalization.

But you bring up a good point,......WHAT WOULD MAPLE DO?

Probably go unpack some boxes and chase the dog around the block....

That's not helpful.

Yeah but Maple is sneaky, has an evil streak, and can write when she wants to. Besides, this skinnyheifercock seems all to familiar with the OW's. Do I hear a muwahahaha

So is red recessive in cattle? Will your black angus cows make black or red calves or both?

Yeah, but where are you getting a good Lav Orp to start with? We've had 2 now, both were bad tempered, laid green eggs, and weren't exactly typey. Where is Batty when we need her?

I'm just gonna roll with the heifercock........its probably a mod in disguise, sent to lull us all into a sense of complacency and then NAIL US TO THE WALL when we slip up.

Or maybe not.

That's why I was thinking LF. I have some nice LF roos available to me. And a few lav orp hens floating around. Thought it would be fun and no one seems to be doing it.

You don't need a good lav orp, you just need the color. Doing the crossed with really good black cochins should fix it in the issues in 5 years or so. Go look at the thread Tom Roebuck has going with his Lav bantam cochin project. The lavs he started with were ugly as sin but he has made great progress....

Are your LF cochins available from a dude whose last name starts with B? Lol

both. If I may venture to say.........We have Maine Anjou crossed with angus and some English short horn for good measure. One of the bulls is dominant black but rescessive red and a few of the cows are the same so we have a couple black cows with red calves.

Man! Don't you just love genetics?!?

Well, when you're talking angus they will let you slide with some red in the hide, altho black is the highest priced around here. Red genes are more docile. Our cows are MOSTLY docile anyway but overall I like the look of a finished red better, they seem to be more juicy lol

I LOVE horse color genetics. Haven't ever gotten into it with cattle or chickens.
