Well, next time I'll send you some Fritos to eat first or something.

Ugh, you know, I should learn. EVERY time we go over there I always imagine we'll have a drink, visit for an hour, then go home and make supper. BUT, I always bring DH with me and once he's there you can't drag him away for anything. a month ago there was a tornado and while DS and I were in the crawl space I was frantically calling him because he was having too much fun drinking with the neighbor to come in from the tornado. There is also now a running joke about DH ruining Christmas, but it wasn't funny when it happened. I should know better than to take him over there with me.

I don't know if I am tough enough to do what you guys do for your birds. I think I'd pass out barfing. I've never even seen a maggot.

Just wait. My leghorn hen who I did bumblefoot surgery on last year......needs it on the other foot now. Her foot is so lumpy and swollen it is deformed looking. I will cut it open in a few spots, flush it out, pack it with neosporin, wrap it and then give her a shot of antibiotics and make her stay in a brooder for a few days.

After 5 or 6 years old, it seems fertility decreases quite a bit. They carry the litters fine, but they have trouble conceiving. Although two years ago, my 5 year old doe kindled just fine, but died when the babies were 2 weeks old. I was floored! We hand raised the babies (she only had 3) and they survived just fine. I kept one of the does from that litter and she's the sweetest girl.

The number in the litter seems individual to the doe. My doe that died always had 3 in her litters and her daughter that I kept had 3 in her first litter. My big HL doe had 6 in each of her litters.

I saw one of those ER reality shows and the homelss man came in with his leg and foot covered in maggots but once they washed them off...the dr. was impressed on how clean the maggots made his wound.

All of the lops are cute. They are also super duper competitive, it seems.

They are also super duper EVIL.

I want to say that this doe is around 3 or 3.5 years old......I have only had her since end of may so she is going to have to earn her keep before I will retire her. I don't mind giving the ladies a good retirement, but they need to at least provide a few litters first lol. Then they can sit around and eat bon bons and watch desperate housedoes for their senior years.

I was afraid I would get stuck having to try to keep this baby alive when she started bleeding a day or two after birth. But once she passed that last dead kit, she has been fine ever since. From now on I am breeding two does at the same time in case one has issues.

She's so creative, I wish I had those skills.

It's H2B's birthday this weekend. When asked what kind of cake he wants - "Suicide by chocolate" Hmmm, gee, twist my arm
