Wet carpet with pet "residue" NEVER comes 100% clean and fresh. Just doesn't happen....the older the carpet, the harder to clean. It's the padding underneath that is the culprit.

Thus explaining why some of us do not have carpets.

x2

Apparently I have a food blog post on FarmBell today.

I am so VERY glad I didn't post a picture of what my spice cabinet looked like BEFORE I cleaned it. It was shameful.

I have 2700 sq feet of house, 1800+ of it livable. All is tile or bare concrete with the exception of the living room, which doubles as a play area for the kids.

It is ~20' by 20'? Maybe.

And it is the ONLY place the dogs will pee or crap if they accidentally get locked in the house at night.

I was actually calling the grocery stores when I read the carpet cleaning posts, because the krogers/frys often have Stanley Steamer machines to rent.

Cleaning the spice cabinet is on my to-do list....

BTW, ancient mulling spices are awesome when put into a muslim bag and tossed into the pot cooking the peaches for peach butter. Spiced Peach Butter is to die for tasty....

I've rented those machines.

I try to keep the doors closed but they are pocket doors or otherwise upstairs which doesn't have doors...it's like a long hall of slender rooms...except for the middle room has those luever bar style doors you see in old country movies. Pocket doors can be nudged open.

The upstairs is only 2 year old carpet and the bedrooms about 9 years.

mmm...sounds delish.

Mmmmhmmmm.. You should see the damage I did when canning last October. I had an obsession and filled two of those ccabinets. My favorite was the vanilla pear butter and the cranberry pear butter.

I have to go crack one open now...

Dh is so OCD that he owned a carpet cleaner long before we got married. Only the basement has carpet and it gets cleaned about every 3-4 months.

Another reason we can't have a dog is because of their fondness for piddling on carpets and area rugs (when you say 'area rugs' at my hoiuse DH will imitate you but with the words half-swallowed in the back of his throat as he imitates John Belushi in an old Saturday Night Live skit...)

And why do the dogs do that? Seek out the carpet? Why not the tile or linoleum where it's easier to pick up? dumb butts...that ain't no grassy patch.
