My weekend report...
Wednesday - Late night run to town to see the new Transformers in IMAX 3D - Awesome
Thursday - Got the gun safe delivered, sold the extra washer & dryer, Shopped for all the parts for our long To-Do list, Bought the new BBQ Grill, Got started on the closet project (moving and adding shelving into bedroom closets, we have 10' ceilings so there's a lot of storage space overhead)
Friday - Did some work in the yard, some work in the house, set up a sorting station (we have too much stuff, it's time to get really serious about purging. I have containers set up and ready for trash, donations, or recycle. The rest will be kept but only if it has somewhere to be put away) Went room to room and inventoried the number of boxes waiting to be unpacked. Did I mention we have too much stuff. started to sort stuff.
Saturday - Tom's brothers birthday, BBQ at our house on our new grill. Had steaks cut special just for the occasion - YUM. Cleaned like crazy before they got here, how can 2 dogs lose so much hair and not be bald? Did a bit more sorting too. Had a great afternoon. Ended the day watching a movie while sorting through old paperwork.
Sunday - more movies and sorting, hauled a bunch of boxes upstairs, hauled some stuff to get rid of downstairs. More sorting, played with chickens, grilled dinner, more sorting... We finally attacked the big ugly mess in the workshop. The workshop became the default for anything we didn't have a specific place for, it's a huge room 17 X 22, stacked wall to wall, 4 feet high, with just a path through the middle. It's a mess. So we picked the north wall and began reorganizing. The stuff is just heaped in there, not even really stacked, so the first order of business is to start categorizing; sort immediately or sort later (must be done over the next 6 months!) we decided to clear along this wall because it had the least amount of stuff heaped against it and most of what was there had somewhere else to go, leaving us with a clean spot to start putting things that needed to be dealt with soon. It's amazing how that one little clean spot has changed the feel of the whole room.
Monday - Back to the cluster of clutter, this time we attacked the south wall. Again, this wall had a few big bulky but easily relocated "stuff" leaving us with a clean spot to start neatly stacking the long term sort. Now it's simply a matter of determining if a box can go to another room, if it needs sorting - is it long term or short term, then move on to the next box.
About noon we decided to take a drive. I called and ordered some yummy lunch which we picked up on the way and then drove over Hatcher Pass. Tom had never been over that pass and it's a pretty drive. Our borough is the size of West Virginia and the route we took just goes from one side to the other but it's a 120 mile "loop". There is an old mining town up there, some beautiful outlooks, the mountains were amazing and the weather could have been better, but all-in-all it was a great way to spend some time. Then we stopped by the senior housing where my mom lives, they were doing a picnic with fireworks (not spectacular since it was daylight but still fun). Then back home, sort some more, work on the other closet some more, sort some more.... the end of the day found us downstairs watching fireworks from NY and Boston on TV cause it's still daylight here so the fireworks aren't too spectacular.
Tuesday - my day off, dropped a dog at the vet for some dental work and a biopsy of a thing on her shoulder, now I'm writing to you all then I have to go alter some slacks, feed and water chickens, go to the bank, the library, the post office, the title company, the realtor's office, the DMV, the chiropractor for a massage and adjustment, then back to the vet to pick up the dog with fresh breath and clean teeth... so I can come home and fix dinner and play games online with friends in other states
