Frightening.

I gave the remainging Mahonri chicks to a broody. Or more accurately, I gave the broody to the chicks. Poor Violet has been broody FOOOOOOREVER in this heat, but the chick she hatched yesterday didn't make it. She looks awful. But when I dumped her in the chick brooder, and she realized there were babies in there, she looked relieved.

I would say she looked grateful, but the moment was fleeting as she immediately went into "Evil Mama" mode.

I planted six of them in nice soil in a container. None germinated. I think they might be too old at this point. Maybe I can find some for sale online.

Reminded DH I want quails this morning. He's thinking you all are a bad influence.

DH and I were at the poultry show in Newnan, Ga at the beginning of the year. We walked up on them and DH was like their cool and I said yep I want a couple. About that time one screeched LOL. DH looked directly at me and said "WE ARE NOT GETTING THOSE" unfortunately I havent been able to figure out how to leave DH home while I go to a show. He says he will not leave my side because I might purchase something obnoxious LOL .

My DH says he cant figure out how to block this site. He says everyone here is just horrid and a bad influence heehee. I want quail too and bunnies and a few other things LOL. But only a few other things (twenty or so is a few right)

I like the guiena hens...but I still need to cull down my flock. Shane asked me ysterday how big a dent the cull made in the flock. My answer-- "I don't know. All those roos Dar dropped off skewed my count and the percentages...Plus right now I have 16 turkeys."

...he thought for a minute and said, "Are you counting the babies? Because the babies don't count."

I have turned my husband to the dark side of chicken math.

They are interesting looking. They do eat their weight and then some in bugs, esp annoying awful bugs like ticks and chiggers. They are hilarious to watch.

They just ain't smart. At all. In any way. Very easily distracted by that shiny thing or that bug or whatever. VERY easily startled into alarm. The roos look around, see if there is a reason for the alert, then go about their business since there is usually not a reason to alert other than that grass blade looked at you funny.

The bigger the flock, the less annoying they tend to be. Somewhat. 2 or 3 are obnoxious as all get out. 24, meh, they aren't quite as annoying.
