There was a milk bank at Stanford, so I was able to go donate weekly, and still keep the kids fed.

I didn't produce the volume, I just had really high butterfat. The doc called it "high octane" since I only got about 6oz total in a session. Lars was a CHUNK in spite of the small amounts.

Ok-- got this email from Sommer. What are you'alls' thoughts?

OK, so, the little lamb (or as my dogs think of it, the "retarded puppy") is doing really well so far. We're out of the woods, I think. He's eating great, and now I'm working on reducing the number of feedings. Should be down to four a day today. Three a day probably by the end of the week.

But, I'm almost out of the milk replacer. Which is CRAZY expensive, unless I drive up to Stephen's and get it. He sells it wholesale for $42 for a 20-pound bag. Online references seem to estimate about 14-16 pounds is what is needed typically to raise a lamb to weaning. So I won't even need a full bag, because he gave me a few pounds to start - so if I can just buy 10 more pounds or whatever, I'll do that.

More troubling is the fact that so far, my four-horned sheep is only showing two horns! I'm not sure what to do. One of his rams does have a lovely set of two spiral horns, but I really only wanted to do the trophy head thing for a four-horned mount. If he's only going to have two horns, I don't know if I want to say "screw it" and re-home him now, before I invest any more time or effort? Or keep him and slaughter him younger while he's still tender?

Are you interested in taking him if I just want to scrap the whole idea? (Because of the effort. The midnight feedings should be over now, but he will need bottle feeding for three or four more weeks, probably.)

SHould I take it and raise it, if only for the experience and so Shane can get the horns?

Or should we slaughter it now for meat?​
