"walking meth lab"? 118 degrees? I'm askeered of where you live.
I have been vounteering in E's Kindergarten. There is a little boy named Chris, in there who is working at Ronin's level, so ~3 years old. Socially, I'd say he is younger. For example: you talk to him, and he responds, but he cannot carry out multiple-step commands. So you say "sit down and open your book and color" and he will sit down, touch the book, stand up, and bring it to you. He's so happy someone is talking to him, he just stands there and smiles--wants to be touched and held. He's not slow, but....ignored?
He's one of the kids I am supposed to work one-on-one with.
Anywho-for K all the parents got a list of stuff to buy for the classroom. It was a lot of stuff. Kids brought it in, and teacher disseminated it out to tables and put extras away.
FINALLY, MY STORY:
When I volunteered yesterday, Chris was not in class, I left at 10 am and he was not there. When I picked up Ender at the end of the day, the teacher tried to talk to Chris' cracked out mom/grandma about him being late. She said, "Chris really missed s lot by being late today. He missed the whole reading lesson, and he needs a lot of extra help. I can't teach him if he isn't here on time." I got the sense this isn't the first time Chris had been late-late, even though school has only been in 8 days.
Meth-lab got all defensive and (totally chaning the subject) asked, "Well when tried to do his homework this weekend, his crayons and all the stuff I bough him were missing out of his backpack." (I distinctly remember Methlab NOT having the 2 grocery bags of stuff with her on the first day of school) The teacher tried to explain all of the supplies listed were for the classroom, and were for use in class. She may have mistakenly used the word "donations".
Methlab got all up in arms about the money she spent and if she wanted to donate it she would have and the teacher STOLE poor Chris' $.40 box of crayolas and Methlab had to go buy more just so he could finish the one sheet of the letter "M" homework. The teacher said she was sorry if the supplies list was unclear, but if Methlab doesn't want to donate supplies, she should have left them at home. ....and then Methlab blew up. Teacher apologized again, and offered to go gather supplies back up and return them.
Methlab stormed away, without signing out Chris.
I signed out Ender, and left. When we were walking out, I passed Methlab screaming at the principal and front desk lady about, (and I quote) "That beeeoch done stoled my kid's crayons and if eyes wanted to donate stuff I would have done donated them!" Poor little Chris looked scared and confused.
...
I told shane this story and he forbid me from bringing home stray kids.
