I have to say that all the discouraging, heart-rending problems with raising children that I read about here make me so relieved that I passed on motherhood. But then again, I also don't have adorable little faces to photograph and brag about and be proud of. And who will push my wheelchair when I'm old and cranky(er).

Sparkie, my son was kicked out of knindergarten, 2nd grade, football camp and 8th grade. And he has always been a good boy. Kindergarten for biting (he has always been delayed), 2nd grade for sexual harrassment (he grabbed a hoo haa when she wouldn't quit poking him with her pencil, football camp because he cried, and 8th grade because I hollered at the band teacher for putting his hands on my child. That was more of a mutual decision. He was homeschooled and is now in college.

There is hope for our kids. All people make mistakes, and some learn from them.

Chris reminds me of the foster placement we had this summer.

He was 4 years old, turning 5 in Feb.

-he couldn't count to THREE
-he had NO idea how old he was
-couldn't sing his ABC's or recognize letters
-didn't recognize his name in print
-had never brushed his teeth before
-never had his own bed before

He had been totally ignored and like you said he was SO happy when we paid attention to him, he hated to be alone, so followed us all everywhere. Before we could teach him very much, they moved him to a relative's custody. I was pushing hard for social services to get him into a pre-K program, hopefully they will. Poor kid.

I've met his parents and both his grandmothers. I was not impressed. I've never met the great-aunt who took all 4 of those kids, but if she's related to either of the grandmothers, I'm not sure how improved his situation would be.

I'm sure they have their hands full - he was quite a hand full all by himself. I'm hoping they get him and his sister into a pre-K program. They could really use the structure of a planned day and they're so behind on their schooling.
